Default Will a Vn 5 Speed gearbox bolt upto an ecotec??

Hey all i was just wondering if the t5 would bolt up to an ecotec motor, cause i love my 5 speed but my motor is dying a slow slow death and i want to replace it with an ecotec.

    any info is greatly appreciated.

And why not exactly, aren't both motors turbo pattern?, this is a serious question by the way.

It will, but I'm not sure as to the bellhousing, you might need one of a VS if bolting to an ecotec. I'm not 100% sure about that.

so long as its not an early VN t5 it will fit. Im told the Series 1 VN manuals had a different imput shaft. VN 2 up to VS 1 T5's are the same.

My gearbox is a VN series 2 t5

I'd imagine the t5 will bolt up, but you might possibly run into issues with the flywheel.

I believe ecotecs used a different flywheel to the earlier v6's - the best person to PM about this would be 'thestig' as I believe he's put a ecotec flywheel behind a early v6 and had to do some machining etc before it would all fit up with his t5.

you might just be able to bolt the earlier flywheel onto the ecotec though, maybe!

oh yeah. the fly wheel is an issue. also, i think 1990 was like a series 1.5 model, so im not sure what engine you would have

it's definitely the same as a vp or vr ser 1 motor, i sold my other 90 model 5 speed to a fella with a vr and he didn't have any probs.

It will bolt up to any buick.. auto or manual no dramas but if you use a auto motor with T5 disconnect the cam sensor..

t5 box is essentially the same throughout the v6 range..
only thing that changed were flywheels essentially (aside from vn s1 had a different balencing weight)
    vn s1 had a 6 bolt flywheel
vn s2-vr had an 8 bolt flywheel.
vs s1 (t5) had an 8 bolt flywheel counterbalenced to that of the vn-vr variety..
if you have a vn-vr flywheel go to your machine shop with your auto flexplate from the motor the t5 will be going on and get them to mirror balence it.
all t5's have the same input shaft- therefor the same spigot bush.
and im sorry i don't know the entire stories with the starter motors.. there is a difference with starter motors for at least one of the models.

    @ Vammplestat.

This isn't a thread dig, this is actually how information should be acheived.

By searching for an old thread and either finding the info you need or asking a relevant question as the gentleman above has.

Please learn the difference between digging and the correct way to ask for info, this way we might not end up with as many rediculous exhasut threads.

    Peace out.
