Hey all!
There isnt really much i can say in my first post on the subject, other then that if i drive my S1 VN (no mods except a VP LE memcal.. if thats even counted as one :S.. oh and its auto, 230,000kms) every day its fine to drive no real problem sother then a pretty rough vibration in the cabin.. Although if i start her up after abotu 2 days.. the car will take awhile to reverse when put into reverse gear.. thats ok i can deal with that
but
i also notice that when i get a chance to put my foot down just to get to 60, good god i only have to lightly touch the throttle and it starts to fly.. its really bizzare :S.. It even scared me about 5 mins ago turning off a main road, i would put my foot down to where i usually would when driving and it started to kick out.. i was close to ****ting myself lol The engine note is noticeably throatier? and just overall sounds much better.
Anyway what i wanted to ask you guys.girls is what could possibly cause something like this? I can only think of some sort of fluid issue... although i have no idea WHAT ??
placebo effect
Its all in ur head lol,
Speed never killed anyone. Suddenly becoming stationary, now that's what gets you...
It will go better with a series one memcal in it too
any difference in temperature when it goes better then normally?
actually the temp when up alot faster then normal.. I have replaced the thermostat housing + thermostat with brand new items about 3 weeks ago.
I have had a nagging issue where the thermofan would turn on at different intervals at the temp gauge.
For example the gauge would be at 1/4 but the fans would kick in, whilst usually it takes the fans to kick in when the gauge gets to about 1/2.
Also it takes ages for the heater to actually get warm.. It all sounds as if the thermostat was stuck or there was nothing there, but i assure you it ahs been changed with a new one lol Oh and you can also hear water trickling behind the heater, but just figured it was somethign to do with the heating (obviously) and probably just meant to be lik ethat.
Haha and to you guys saying its aplacebo thing i totally understand what your saying lol but i am 10000% its not that, because the reason i have been swapping memcals was due to a mechanic sharing his opinion that it was the ecu that was making the engine idle rough..
I ran an ecu check and nothing pops up??
maybe you have air still in your cooling system, would explaning the water noises.
i would flush the cooling system thoughly and make sure the heater is open/on full so it flushes properly, maybe add some flushing additive (dont know whats out there) and fun that for a bit, then again flush, and fill with coolent, ensuring all air is bleed from the system.
Clean the oxygen sensor up to fix your rough idling and your cooling system sounds like it is full of air?
As for the huge power surge?.....how the faaaark do i get one?????? & why complain about it?????????
Cheers..................Pete!![]()
im not complaining, haha i just want to know why the hell it would suddenly happen after letting the car sit for a few days??
Im just interested to know what could cause this, and tomorrow if i go to drive her.. and she goes back to normal.. i want to know what is wrong with it so i can get her like that all the time lol
I will look into the o2 sensor + curcuit and also flush and drain the air/coolant from the radiator. If it works you will hear about it haha id be stoked
does the car use oil?
An old trick i have heard that may have something to do with what is happening, provided it uses a little oil.
When valve guide seals are stuffed the oil leaks down, if over 2 days it is leaking anf getting into the pots there is a possibility that the oil is getting onto the old compession rings and making them seal better and giving you more power for a little while.
I have heard stories of old bushies with realy rs engines putting a pump from a grease gun in 1 failing pot each morning to seal it and make the engine run ok.
this is about the only thing i can think off that may explain it.

Could possibly be the auto on its way out, and starting to slip. It would explain the intermittant power loss when its playing up.
Still made it a tiiiiiiny bit slower, certainly no huge leap in performance anyway
