a couple weeks ago i changed the oil in my vp and used shell helix 15w-40 instead of the 20w-50 i normally used.
over the last week i have noticed new noises, like nosiey lifter and now a hint of a knock.
so just changed back to the 20w-50 i was using.
Well time to save up for a new power plant.
been eyeing of a burnt vt, i can get the donk and box for $80 but have to replace all the plastics on it.
it got hot enough to warp the plastics and screw the balancer but they are still there.
So there is a good chance that it will be ok after a few bits are replaced.
Personelly I wouldnt be buying any motor thats been in a fire. You dont no wat could be warped or burnt. Most likely all sensors and wiring will need replacing plus alot of other crap. Id be hanging out, you can pick up a vt box and motor for a couple of hundred.
Also to put the ecotec in you will need wiring, computer, and the security features disabled in the computer.
Would be easier and cheaper just to replace with another buick, which can be had for even cheaper.
tip a bottle nulon engine flush in and run it for 15 minutes to loosen up the gunk (and clog the oil pickup..) then fill up with either 15-40 or 20-50 doesnt really matter unless you give it a hard time and the rings are a bit sad. (you might also notice oil leaks where your gaskets arent sealing with the thicker oil).
Also when filling up with new oil put in some lifter free tuneup or performance engine treatment.
nah mate can't get vt bits here for anything like a good price.
I was quoted $660 for a vp auto and not reco either.
