    Unhappy VP Vacationer Dashlight Issue

Recently the headlight switch on my dash snapped, a common issue I have been told. However, tracking down a replacement switch hasnt been easy, as its hard to find one matching the one I already had.

I finally bit the bullet and installed a switch from a stock VP with the cruise controls as mine has, but here is the problem.

Since doing so, I have found that my dashlights no longer operate. I have changed the fuse in the fuse panel under the steering wheel and checked all the lights in the dash itself, but to no avail.

All the warning lights work, but nothing illuminating the taco or gauges.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what it could be preventing my dashlights coming on?

did you check the number of pins on the back of both switches?
I would check you manual for differences in the wiring.
Your vacationer is probably a later model while the switch could be off an older one.

theres 2 different switches for VPs. One has a button for the dimmer. The oother (with cruise and airial) has a slide bar on the right. Try sliding that all the way to the top.

okay, off the bat, I can tell you that the vacationer model that I have definately doesnt have the slider for the dimmer, from what I can tell, most models of vn/vp have the hazzard switch on the right hand side, mine is on the left, with the rear window demister switch and interior dome light, and had the dimmer button on the right hand side with the cruise control switches.

From what I am reading, it is likely a wiring issue with the switches, will try the old switch, see if it re-enables the dash lights. I guess its back to tracking down a vp vacationer of the same model as mine and stealing the dash switches.

You've bought a VN switch then, and they are different, which is why they wont work.

thats just it, I am describing the original (stock) switch, it has the switch for dimmer with the cruise control settings on the right, and its like picking hens teeth tracking one down that matches. The one I have now I can tell you is definately the wrong type, but was a case of needing headlights kinda desperately, and worked around the dashlight issue, but its been bugging me so thought I would ask about it.

I have been keeping an eye on ebay for ages, unfortunately I cant seem to find one of the right model, all the ones for the right hand side have the cruise control, hazzard and aerial switches. The switch I need has the dimmer switch instead of the hazzard on the right side.

    Ohk i see now.

All you need is a switch from a car WITHOUT the standard holden security/immobilizer. If that helps any.

You'll be going some to find one tho, thats the first one i've seen with cruise and elec antenna.

it might be an idea, and help on how to remove the switch knob? I am looking at it now, and from what I see, it seems to be a single sealed unit
