    Default VN Steering Rack replacement

The time is coming when Im going to have to whack a reco-rack in the VN.

Just unbolt the lines, tie rod ends, end of steering column and the mounts to the K-frame?
Can I remove it and install a new one without having to remove the column?

Anything else I should look out?

    Cheers Tom

I did not do the job myself on the wagon - but I dont think they took the column out. Just unbolted it all - maybe the exhaust may be in the way - but that would be all I think.

jack up the front of the car and remove the wheels (use some axle stands ) you need a 19mm socket and ratchet to remove the bolts holding the tie rods. i reverse the castelated nuts on the stud and give em a good whack with a hammer and they normally pop out first time. then i undo the the fluid lines, a 15mm (or 9/16") spanner and 19mm (or 3/4") spanner there.then just unbolt the coupling above the rack 2 bolts. need 2x 13mm spanners (or 1/2"). then undo the 2 main bolts that hold the rack to the K frame. use a 19mm spanner on the nut on top and use the 19mm socket to undo the bolts. then the entire rack will just pull away from the K frame and drop out.

when you fit the new rack make sure you use some now 'O' rings on the fluid lines otherwise they may most likely leak. use some new split pins also as you most likely stuffed the old ones when you removed em

    Thanks immorality, perfect.
Ive changed racks in the VK before just wasnt sure if their was anything majorly different to the VN. And when I did the VK i remove the column to fit a new shaft sop wasnt sure if it could be done with the column in place.

    Cheers Tom
