Question VP Fuel Economy and Temperature gauge :(

My 1993 VP executive V6 gets 16.4L per 100km at best, it idles a bit rough and the temperature gauge is always saying its cool.

Anyone reckon these problems are all linked?

    wheels are aligned and balanced

also most people think i should replace the O2 sensor but i dont wanna replace it if its not gonna do anything

    any ideas?

i was expecting to get closer to the factory figures (12.5L) instead of figures similar to that of a hummer

I had this same problem with poor fuel economy and a temp gauge that was barely reading anything. I changed my thermostat and now I can get 10lt per 100km doing 120km per hour on the open highway....before I was using 11-12lt per 100km doing 110kmh....I have a V6 VN ute with no modifications

    x2

Thermostat is stuck open. Put a properly working one in and your car will actually make it off the cold map.

My VN V6 s1 auto makes a flat 10L/100km, hills driving. I still think it can do better. Ask greenfoam how much I complain about my fuel economy My fuel breather hoses are completely rooted (chunks missing) so I'm losing fuel that way, the motor has 500,000km on it and it's 17 yrs old now. Still does 10L/100km, every tank, without fail.

Here's what I'd say.. one by one, start at the top and keep going until your problem's fixed:

    thermostat
    plugs
    leads
    coil packs

    Actually that should do it.

    Sam

ps haha 90Holden, me and a mate were crossing Australia a couple of years back (Canberra to Perth) and we ran 3 or 4 whole tanks at 140-150kph, sat on a flat 10L/100km that was before I had it tuned as well.

Well they should be well under 10L/100 (when new) on the highway but not many are still in that kind of form

Just replaced the oxygen sensor in my stock 180K VP. Went from 15l/100km down to 11.5l/100km the very next tank, no changes to anything else or how I drive.

WIN!! back down to cruising at just under 7L/100km @ 110kph; around 5L/100km @ 50-60kph

And that's without your update installed yet greenfoam, and the TCC not working at all
