Default VR level 2 dash into VP level 1???

Hey guys i currently have a VP level 1 dash in my vp and am wanting to upgrade to a level 2 dash with a tacho, i have a vr level 2 dash and im wondering if its possible to pull the clusters out of the vr dash and put them into my level 1 dash.

question 1 - will the tacho work even though my vp dash is level 1???

question 2 - will the instrument clusters fit straight into my vp dash???

Also what is required to put cruise control into a vp with level 1 dash, i can easily get the cruise control switches from a wreckers but wondering if more wiring needs to be done or anything else.

    Thanks, Anthony

From what I know, VR/VS cluster is the same as the VN/VP ones...so you should be able to put it in...

As for it wiring up, yes it will.

Just check the numder one the sockets at the back to make sure they are the same.
If they are not the same then you carefully remove the green circuit film and swap them over, then you just need to swap over the front cover as the dash warning lights may be different.
Yes this works i have a vs cluster with vn front taco and corcuit in my vp.

Is it just the VR/VS L3 clusters that make smoke when put into a VN/VP?

Are L2 cluster good to swap?

Still looking for a defiant answer

it wont work, the vr dash fits in perfectly, except it smokes, the wiring on the vr is different, even if i change the green circuit board its still going to smoke due to it having the wiring differently. Someone correct me if im wrong but i tried to install the vr dash straight in, fitted perfectly and then reconnected the battery and it started to smoke, burnt out two of the circuit lines.

the vr/vs dash cluster WILL NOT work in a vn/vp......

i have tried this, and it burnt out the wires in my mates vp sedan...
it cost me a new dash harness in the process.......

the level 2 dashs cost around 50 bucks at the wreckers... just finding one in good nick is ur only problem..

yeah i have worked that out by experience, the question im asking is, will i be able to take the instrument clusters out of the vr level 2 dash, and put the clusters into my vp level 1 dash and have them all working, including tacho. if u get what i mean, because i prefer the vr ones over the vp ones. im just asking if it'll work, otherwise ill got get a vn or vp level 2 dash and put the vr clusters into that as i believe that they are all interchangeable just unsure if they are between different level dashes. thanks aswell for your clear answer NV_90VN

Ive got a VR lvl 2 one in mine, either that or the faces are from a VR but it dose look like the circuit on the back has been changed.

will i be able to take the instrument clusters out of the vr level 2 dash, and put the clusters into my vp level 1 dash and have them all working, including tacho.
I know if you do that having the clusters from the same car it works, and since people say its all the same cept the circuit this seems like the way to go.

np, if worst comes to worst just buy a VN/VP lv2 and change the faces.

I got mine because i liked the VR one better off ebay but i went to this guys house to see if it worked in a VN as he claimed first

In response to before, yes, if you take the individual gauges out. Not sure how levels 1's swap with level 2's, but speedo etc are definaintly interchangeable. AS already said, don't put the whole cluster in.

ok so don't listen to the guy who made the same mistakes that you have and found out how to get around them.
the ONLY difference you need to worry about is the green circuit on the back is different and the little ligth up bits in the front.
The speedo and other cluster bits ARE the same in vn, vp and vs.
The easy was it to take the grren board of your level 1 dash and fit it to the vr dash.
YES you have to put a few extra holes in it and cover a couple but they are all marked allready.
SAVE your self the money, i went through 3 dashes to discover all this.

Or go spend more cash to buy a vn one ready to go.
PS most vn dashes don't have the press key light.

Yes, personally i would've just bought a $20 dash. But its handy to know if you need a dash and thats all you have to work with.

You can fit the Level 3 dash withoput any modification, although you wont have any of the trips at the bottom working (and no odometre), but speedo/tacho and fuel/temp will all work

I've mentioned it in a few posts. Keep in mind no odometre means its technically a defect, not that i car either way

Don't want to be a thread digger, but I just did this with mine, put a VS 2 into my VP 1, Changed over the front panels, plastic board on back, and the small circuit board inside....Even spent hours scratching away at the plastic to get the metal points where the new holes are....All works fine (now), except the tacho...I was told that it works fine, was taken out of a written off vehicle, and I trust the person that I got it off, but anyway, could there be a wiring problem in my car that is affecting the tacho not working, or could it be the tacho? and if so, how would I know without buying a new lvl 2 cluster?
