Default Boot Lips what are they made of?? How To paint them?

So i got a boot lip now for my calais. It seems to be made of a neoprene rubber type material. I'm guesing this a factory item? it looks genuine with gm numbers and stuff.
So whats the best way to prep and paint these. Obviously they seem prone to going soft and cracking paint.

They are the same material as the Factory SS skirts your selling. Can't help you with the prepping side, but just do what you'd do with the bodykit.

Did you get the Holden one, or the HSV one?

Um you sure? I had SS sideskirts before the kit and they were plastic. The lip spoilers (not SS but like international) are rubber.

Ask a painter. You'll need a flexible paint. They are very prone to cracking paint as they are rubber and flex alot.

I looked at a bootlip off a car once, and it was the same yellow as the skirts/lips.

    I assume so.

The HSV one is almost identicle to mine, but the 'curve' is sharper, and has an edge to it. Its like halfway between mine and the SV90 style ones.

you will need some type of primer that will bind to the rubber and then a flexible top coat.
Thin will be the key so as to get max stretch.
If you cheat and use colour matched house paint then acrylic and damn thick as that stuff when built up thick is like plastic sheet.

Hey greenvn did he say that it will turn out ok? I would really like mine to be solid i was thinking of glassing over the top just enough to firm it up a bit.
I wouldnt mind seeing a tech sheet if you get a hold of one i'm sure the mounting points would be similar.

This is a good thread going here when searching i couldnt find any(worthwhile) info so its good to have one thread

If its the rubber type one, My mate had his panel beater do it for him. The panel beater injected some type of resin into the rubber, so it could be sanded and prepped. But the one my mate had was in really bad condition though. Had cracks on it everywhere and a chunk missing from where the boot lock was.

if you sand it back to rubber with say 320 then give it a few coats of etch primer (i recommend mipa) then prime it with normal primer but add some elasticiser to it, you can add anywhere between 15-50%.
rub with 800wet, cover it with basecoat(no elasticiser needed) then clear it (add elasticiser again)
