How you going there guys, I wonder if anyone can help me!
I took my VN Berlina Wagon to go over the pits today, and ofcourse (big suprise) it was knocked back
Heres what they reckon is wrong with it:
All tyres are unroadworthy (yes they really are)
Hand brake not working (aparently it can only click 7 times, mine clicks about 30 and needs to be adjusted?)
And finally, the rear univeral joint is worn.
Now thats less than what I origionally KNEW was wrong with my car, so theyve been good, now I just need help/ideas on how to fix the handbrake and the universal joint so I can get it registered, I need to cuz its my work car and lets face it, If I keep driving it unregistered, Ill get raped by the police.
If anyone has any tips/ideas/knowledge on these things and can help me, youd be legends!
tyres, just get new ones if yours aren't roadworthy or use a mates rims or something.
to adjust the handbrake get underneath the car and there will be Y-piece with 2 nuts. just tighten it from there.
as the for rear uni, im not too sure.
rear uni can be done one of 2 ways.
1 unbolt the flange of the diff and drop the rear of the shaft down so you can get easy access to it. there will be a retainer ring on each cup, either on the inde of the cup to stop it slipping out or inside the hole in the yoke.
remove all the clips then get a solid rod or something and whack tem in on one side and the other will pop out. remove the cup that sticks out then knock it back the other way to push the other out.
assembly is pretty easy put the x in the middle and push the cups in, maybe with a little loving(hammer) Now you will need to put grease in the cups to hold the need rollers in place so they don't fall out. when cups in refit retainers the bolt back up.
the other way is to have it up high on stands and not undo the flange, you will need to be able to spin atleast one wheel to turn the shaft.
Not real complex but can be BLOODY tight.
Remember the old one is stuffed so don't be gentle.
about $20 for the uni
Gee wiz centy, I would never hit a UJ 'in' with a hammer (tends to damage the end caps and knock out the bearings on the way in). I use a G clamp, or pull the shaft out and use a vice, and a socket and press them in, it's a lot easier and less likely to cause damage. I like to press them out through a large socket also but hitting them out is no problems as I agree with the 'already stuffed' sentiment! Not a hard job, just a pain to get the shaft out.
yer i was told by hardy spicer never to hit the uni joints out as u will **** or distort the bores and take it more outa wack
I passed the roadworthy with some stockies, fixed the handbrake myself and got a mechanic to put in the universal joint for 20 bucks![]()
