Default Problem with broken radiator hose

Hello, was looking at my engine today and I noticed a small leak from the hose just under the alternator, so I moved it a bit and it broke off. The HOSE is fine, but the pipe that comes out the engine has broken off.

Has anyone had this happen before? or know of a way to fix this. I can't move my car as the radiator coolant just pours out that pipe and the car over heats...

I don't kow how to fix it...It's part of the motor, I was told the pipe (that is broken) just pushes in there and should come out with no problems...Am just hoping thats true...

What exactly do I need? do I have to take off half the motor? or is it just a pipe that goes into the hole?

I think you will find that there is a 10mm head bolt that holds that part in place buried under the oil and dirt. Undo that and the remnant will pull staright out. You will need the replacement part and the 'O' ring seal that goes with it. Clean out the the hole it goes into, then insert the new part and refit the bolt. A wipe of silicon sealant (like Ultra Blue) may be needed if the hole in the block is corroded. The hose looks swollen and soft too, so good to replace that and the hose clamps at the same time.

The cooling system will have to be bled too.

Ok thanks, will have a look tomorrow at undoing it, and will be changing that pipe and clamps (as half the pipe is in the hose), but nothing in the cooling system anymore...all went out that pipe when I started car

    Default ive done this

take off negitive terminal and remove the serpentine belt from the alternator (make sure you put it back on correcty) remove the two bolts holding the alternator and carefully lift the alternator enough so you have clear acesss to the water pipe (be super carefull with the alternator wires you may have to unplug one) there is a 10mm bolt holding the plastic joiner and most likely it will be broken off flush with the inlet mannifold so make a hook i bent a small screwdriver 90 degrees and use it to pull the broken bit out clean the hole with petrol and a scourer and use silicon on the new one. the bit is available from holden for about ten bucks. good luck

All fixed now, went to holden and asked them and the guy there said it's common, another guy had gone in earlier that day for the same thing, but it's just a bit of pipe that screws on...

    Thanks for the help

For anyone interested, in case of future problems here is what it looks like:

The part in question is called a connector cool gm #92061300. Most importantly there is one on the back of the manifold also. It will also be brittle. If it comes apart in more than 1 piece, you have to remove the manifold to get to it. I removed my intake and just lifted it up and rotated it 90 degrees. I did this because I did not want to remove the throttle linkage. There is an o-ring that goes on it also.

Thanks guys, I had it fixed the same day it died a couple of weeks ago & replaced it with the metal type one.

Cost was $20 which included the metal connector with O ring, new hose & clamps.
