hey guys just wonder if people can list some things they have been picked on for with a road worthy
If you do things righ people wont know you have done anything at all...
friends and myself:
bouncy suspension
speaker holes in parcel shelf with no speakers in them.
oil leaks
incorrect ticking speed on blinkers
and the usual commonsense stuff - globes, tyres, rust etc.
Main rear seal
loose radio ?? ( they did pick this )
loose handbrake more than 7 clicks
heater not connected
vibration
auto changing to hard
add these to the list too..
bushes and strut tops
exhaust too loud/holes in muffler etc
check that your parcel shelf isnt actually cut to fit bigger speakers too
seatbelts and buckles (fraying or broken buckles etc)
the heater one is interesting... mine cleared that.... again it depends on the place.
loose seats
i've heard badly cracked dash
...more will come to me....
engine number not matching the papers.
ball joint
back seat missing
cracked windscreen
Interestingly, I car I was in charge of getting rid of required a rwc and took it to one place and they trotted out a list of things that were worth more than the car could possibly fetch, that were in need of attention.
some of them were a little too picky and in some cases incorrect interpetation and took the car somewhere else. The second one wasnt quite as "thorough" and there was a shorter and less expensive list.
Both identified worn out brake linings, and worn suspension bushes. One listed every tiny speck of rust as significant and in need of rectification, the other told me the body was in great condition!
Both also failed it for oil leaks. I quizzed both of them about that, i was led to believe that they put a white sheet of paper or similar under the motor after it had been running for a while to see what dropped out. I knew this motor wasnt dropping anything. Both said they failed it because they could see evidence of leaks on the motor. Never mind that this was the accumulation of thirty years of very slight seepage from gaskets etc and produced no logical road usage hazard.
Conclusion: serious items should get picked up by all testers, and clean the motor!, though my own suspicions about anyone producing a spanking clean motor for a rwc would be that they are covering up that it leaks and Id be doing the drop test on it.
dash gauges and lights
wiper washer squirter what ever u call it
every1 else has already put the things they picked on mine for
i also went and got 2 rwc done again depends on tester 1 list had half the list the other picked
well thats scary, i know the bloke doing the roadworthy, but dont know how leniant he will be,
iv fixed so far
bald tyres, cracked windscreen, running **** needed a full service, new power steering pump, hood lining replaced, front bumper loose
still need to fix
tiny half a 5 cent size rust hole, exhaust broken from rear box, window tint needs removing, still got a small miss in it, rear tail lights are broken, rear left hand door handle broken and maybe the brakes
in saying this iv also knoticed with vn-vp's there pretty leniant on the breaks as people know they dont ahve great breaking, and im hoping to get away with a few things like running a small miss, getting the whole car buffed and polished the day i take it in, and also gunna pressure wash/ degrease the motor and all underneath before i take it in to cover any small leaks i hope. and also no rear boot lock, but the boot release on the inside works perfectly, and the hood release works perfectly
If you do things righ people wont know you have done anything at all...
on my VN...
A faded steering wheel. lol
It wasnt spungy, just faded. So I coated it in vinal paint and it passed
So how does the RWC stuff work? Im in sa, have no clue... Sounds hard to keep your cars on the road!
In my old VH SLE i got done for drivers side window not operating properly, heater hoses not connected hence no front demister. They checked the engine bay and ignored the holley carb and manifold.
In my vn ss they got me for: cam, computer, tint on front windows (35%) and exhaust to ground clearance.
The wagz got a quote for $2800 or something from one mob (including some bits and pieces that had been recently replaced and then $320 (including RWC certificate cost) from another mob
Pretty minor stuff, a bent left rear lower control arm was the most expensive part but got pinged for unsecure speakers in the cargo area and a couple of the seals (went to the wreckers and got some new seals)
Rather than go in there with the engine freshly steam cleaned I did it 3 days prior so it at least looked used (certainly helped though as the minor seep through the RHS rocker cover gasket didn't come back noticeably until a few days after)
If ignorance is bliss why aren't there more happy people around ?
first time i got rwc on this car was
windscreen had one dint in it lol! thats all that was needed to be fixed
1st canary minor
x2 rear bald tyres
2nd canary major
windscreen cracked <-- i had to go for rw for this
ill find my roady list!
i heard it won't pass if the zorst contacts the body, which mine does over the axle cos of a broken mount on it, rattles at idle.
you got it good... just had my rwc done ended up costing me around $1200
*1. right hand upper brake light not working
*2. centre brake lights (can't have 2)
*3. right hand front park light not working
*4. headlight globes incorrect (don't match)
5. right hand front engine mount bolt loose.
6. rear shocks too long
*7. tailpipe too short
*8. left hand rear and left hand front tyres worn
9. power steering pump leaking
10. outer tie rod ends worn
11. movement in front wheel bearings
12. universal joints worn
13. speedo transducer leaking oil
14. right hand front lower control arm bush
15. wiper washer motor seal leaking
*16. windscreen
*17. wiper heads to be replaced
*18. wiper switch to be replaced
*19. secure and tape wires in boot (speaker wires, aren't even connected?)
All mine are listed already except for:
front rotors less than 30%
front wheels 14", rear wheels 15" (this was a pos considering you can BUY wheels like that)
there is a reason why they did this - mornington peninsula crackdown, police want to get you for anything and everything down here and they are the ones that cop it if i get pulled over. considering the cops already pulled me over outside their shop to begin with, they were gonna be tough. i fixed half the stuff on the list for under $100, some of the things i wouldn't have picked were uni joints, and rear shocks.
my list for my $800 mistake
driver seat
rear seat belts
secure boot lock
fix bonnet latch and secure
windscreen
no washers
relay cover
rear lower trailing arm bushes
upper trailing arms
front control arm bushes
tailshaft center bearing
rear link pin bushes
ball joints
oil leaks
rust in spare wheel well
swaybar link pin
rust in chassis rail
steering knuckle loose
fuel leak
rear springs
right rear inner guard
strut tops
engine mounts
i think ive paid for this thing 3 times over in parts and tools

well now i think im ****ed, i was trying to get this car on the road asap but now i dont thinks thats gunna happen, i better go over the car real thoroughly now

Windscreen wiper arms or blades seem to have appeared as a fail on a few people's RWC that I know
One place charged a female friend of mine $54 dollars to replace the wiper blades and $6 for a globe
