thats where the compliance plate goes, if it was built and reqistered in aussie. for some reason they weren't fitted for the NZ market. can i ask what you vin number is. commodores built in NZ also didn't have compliance plates fitted either but they stopped building commodores here during the VN run

just looked at oyur pic, there are rivets, that s odd? i think ifyou remove the passenger headlight there should be a VIN number under there. does it match the one under the windscreen?

The missing Compliance plate suggests your VP was an import from Aussie land and has been removed. The tag on the drivers side is the build plate. And As Immortality said under the left head light is the body number tag L123456. This should match the VIN in the front screen and the build plate on the driver side fire wall.

The early KIT VN's built in NZ I'm thinking will have the T in front of the 6 digit serial number. Cars exported to NZ have an L123456. I've only found 1 example to date but there were not that many built in NZ in the first place. Maybe about 8000 from memory.

right, its got jan 92 stamped on the plate, NZ ownership says 1st date of reg was feb 92, the number under the LH headlight is the same as the one under the windscreen.

My guess now is that it was prob a mistake that someone put one on it in the 1st place as NZ is its 1st country of rego according to the ownership

Just had a look at the VP NZ options and the build plate could have XX2 after the L123456.

The broadsheet production options (often under the front carpet on the passengers side) will have a code V5Z for delete safety compliance plate.

interesting it is still there, and yes it does have V5Z along with a heap of other codes and it also matches my chassis code. and says V8 NZL on it too.

Great find - this has a heap of info on what went into the car when on the production line.

Looks like the compliance plate got fitted by mistake. Unless they got removed on every VP that went the NZ.
