Engine number for VN 5.0L

Can anyone help ?? I cant find the engine number on my 5.0L injected motor...my mate said it should be on the side of the block on the right, but where all I can see is extractors HEEEEEELP PLEEEEEEASE

In line with the oil level tube

I was told near the number 1 spark plug I still cant find the bugger thanks for the reply ..... if anyone has pics that would help

It's on the right hand side of the block as you look at it from the front of the car, above the No 1 spark plug. It is stamped on the block's top machined surface adjacent to the head. It will start with two letters and then 6 numbers (ie. VT 123456). If the block has been machined due to a rebuild, it's quite possible the number has been machined off (very common). If it's not there, you will require a forensic scientific method in order to reveal it (don't try this yourself unless you know what you're doing cause you only get one go).
