Lately when I haven't started the car for a day or 2 its becoming harder and harder to start, once its going it idles a little rough then settles down. Once its at operating temp it starts fine with no problems.....Today I fitted a brand new S2 coil pack and dfi in case that was the problem, but it wasn't. Once I got the car going it was blowing smoke like its never done before, puff puff puff....I drove down the street and did a cpl of things and when I got back home it wasn't blowing anything...Also I found oil leaking at the end of the manifold under the throttle body. There's no smoke blowing out the oil filler either when the cap is off....any ideas anyone?
something I forgot to add is that while trying to start the car there is a strong smell of fuel, like its flooding bad, but once the car starts it goes away.
what colour is the smoke?
white
black
blue
be closer to black than blue
nutting this out with a friend tonight we think the problem could be after the car sits for a length of time (day or so) oil could be running down the valve stems and sitting on the pistons, making the engine difficult to fire, and the black smoke been caused by the oil burning and been pushed out the exhaust....obviously once the oil is used up the engine fires and runs a little rough for a bit......does this sound feasible and would it be damaging the O2 sensor?
hmmm....the smoke looked more white after starting yesterday. But once going it settled and did a 400k round trip on both freeway and around Melb. Another possibility put to me yesterday was leaking injectors....which will p*ss me off cos they are reco'd ones I only put on about a month ago.
