Hi, I've had my VP Vacationer for a few years now and the remote central locking has phased itself out of order over a period of about a weekand now it doesn't work at all. The remote is just a crap RemoCon which I'm sure is just a copier remote of the original which I don't have.
Can I get it tested or a new remote coded from the car without a working remote?
Thx Les...
tried changing the battery?
Yeah, first thing I tried but the remotes been dropped a lot and the side got a crack. It's had a hard life was thinking it could died so wanted to know if I could recode a new learner remote from the car perhaps?
If the remote has been dropped a few times, you may find that the metal contacts that touch the battery either a) lose tension so the power from the battery does not get thru to the electronics or b) the copper "pad" where the metal contact that touches the battery joins the printed circuit cracks and needs resoldering.
Another problem with the genuine remotes is verdigrease (green corrosion) on the battery contacts where they touch the battery terminals. In this case, scrape the contacts with a sharp blade or screwdriver to remove the corrosion.
Pete.
I've had the same problem before with my VP remote.
Try removing the circuit board and try operating your remote without the plastic casing. I found that the button on the plastic casing can get very hard over time and not push the micro switch behind it properly. If that's the case you can buy the a new case from holden or just remove the plastic button and press the switch directly. If it doesn't work take the circuit board out and basically remove the old solder. To do this you need to get a solder sucker from Dicksmiths or Jaycar. they don't cost much, about $10 I think. heat up the old solder then use the sucker to pump the solder out while it is still hot and it liquid form. Just resoldering might fix it but the old solder could contaminate the new solder or you could end up with too much solder on the joints.
Once the joint is free from old solder just resolder it with new stuff.
Try it with the battery terminals first then the other solder pads.
Make sure you do this quicky or you will fry the semiconductors.
Good luck
