can any tell me how much dex 3 it takes to fill a vn v6 auto trans, torque converter, and the entire power steering system?
also, if you know how much oil and coolant is required, that would be good to know too.
thanks.
auto about 6-8L
powersteer abouyt .5-1L
Engine oil 4.5L
coolant about 10L
these are rough figures but will give you an idea of how much to buy
diff about .5-1L
hmm...looks like the box isnt selecting gears. wouldnt go into reverse, so tried drive,1,2 etc. no luck...any ideas what could be causing this?
the selector is definatly hooked up, all the wiring is hooked up. got fluid in the trans.
let me know what your thinking
did you fit a new filter?
have you unooked a oil line to make sure it pumps?
is it a later model trans that you have just fitted?
yes
yes
and no
mean new trans time.
newer boxes have a limp home mode and if not connected correctly will only work in 2 and 3 i think.
if you removed the trans did you take the converter off?
they have to go on the right way to work.
-the auto actually takes 15litres,[ transmission and converter],dex-3
-power steering is 1-2 litres total,
-4.5 litres engine oil,
-15 litres for cooling/heater system, dont use premix, or u will cook the motor.,
holden requires u use a 50%-50% mix oc coolant and water..
-1.5 -2 litres of 90w lsd oil..[works much better and is much cooler for the gears],
-install a cooler for the steering and transmission, u will notice the difference.
-its better to do a pan gasket and filter if u change the auto oil, ie, no sludge in the bottom of the box to foul the gears,
-u MUST use the correct box, [ie, s1 vn auto wont fit a s3 vr], if u used a s2 vp box, have u used the same vp computer?? it might be different..
if in doubt, just see a transmission specialist for further info..
no, did not fit a new filter/
no, havnt checked an oil line to make sure it pumps...do you mean one of the lines going to the trans cooler?
and the trans fitted, was the same one that came out of the car when i did an engine change. was and is attached to a series 2 vn motor.
yes, the torque converter came off, and yes, made sure it went back on the correct way.
a few guyshave had similar problems and found it to bew air in the system.
unhook cooler lines and and turn the engine over so some oil pumps out also get a transmission service kit and clean the pan and change the filter.
irecnetl fitted a 1hdm box were a 2hdm came from.
I use the torque converter that came with the other box and have had no trouble.
Old boxes are mechanical and as long as you have the right converter i would not expect any problems.
ps did you bolt the converter to the flexplate?
yes i did...before putting the gearbox on.
i spoke to a mate who has had this problem before, he tells me that i need to put the torque converter on the gearbox first, then twist it until it clicks to activate the pump. since i put the torque converter on the flywheel first, i was unable to do this. this has been quite the learning experience for me.
off comes the box...again.
you bay be able to just undo the flxplate bolts to move it a bit first.
i would take the box off again, and put the tourque convertor in the box first, then bolt it to the motor..
and that is all ur problems from the start..lol dont worry, i made the same mistake with my old ford and vp wagon...lol
