    Default Slipping Auto

Having some trouble with my auto, on startup the auto shifts badly, with it revving high and struggling into the gears, but once the car has been going for a while, its perfect and shifts smoothly. This problem has only been occuring since the hose from the power steering fluid box to the transmission broke and all the fluid dripped out. I replaced the hose and refilled it with new fluid but the auto has never been the same since then. Have i done something wrong? Should I have bled the system before refilling the fluid or is it something else? (BTW before someone asks, I used quality fluid)

there is no line from the steering res to the trans

if it was the steering line which broke, this has NOTHING to do with your trans, you lost steering fluid

you bleed the system to remove air, this can;'t be done before fluid goes in...
trans bleeds itself just by being used, steering is much the same, bleed by using

So if the broken hose has nothing to do with the transmission, whats going on with the tranny then? Is it just getting old or something? Its only done 200000kms. Could the flywheel (i think thats what its called, the circle thing with teeth on it) be worn? When I got the car, it had a ****ty worn starter that had chewed through part of the teeth on the flywheel, although I wasnt having trouble with the tranny at that time.

hmm, dunno if the trans fluid is hydroscopic like brake fluid (absorbs water and it ****s it up) maybe a flush through is in order.

that wheel is the flex plate. it's sole purpose is to transfer the winding of the starter to the engine.
couldn't tell you what's up with your trans. 200,000km is pretty old, you should consider a rebuild, or at least a shift kit.

trans fluid is hygroscopic, but yuo said it's fresh fluid, so that point means nothing... i can't even begin to guess, so i'll just tell you to see a transmission specialist

i have the same problem with my VP at the moment, the fluid looks fine, perfectly pink, no air grase or anything untoward in it, it slips in all gears expecially when cold, its a bitch to get going, have to rev to around 4000 just to start rolling, but once at temperature its fine, no problems, just on first start in the morning, since then its now sittin in the garage waiting for me to save some cash to get it fixed, but any light on the issue would be great,

hit me back for more info.

i was told ages ago that when a auto slips when cold but is fine when hot , that it has been overheated and the seals inside are damaged. so they do not seal untill it warms up enough to soften them a little.
sorry replacement is the only choice.
you could buy a seal kit for not much but takes skill to put together.
