    Default VP Hard Shifting/Kick

    Hello,

My VP Calais is in the process of being roadworthy, so I'm slowly troubleshooting all the problems/potential problems.

I'm unsure if it is just my transmission/shift kit, although my VP kicks hard when it shifts, the higher the revs, the harder it kicks.

I have a 700 Turbo Transmission and a Stage 2 shift kit, is this something I should be worried about/have checked out? Or is this just the way it is?

You really have to be in the car when it shifts to know what it is, although I'm sure some of you have had similar experiences.

    Cheers,
    Chris

My V8 VP Calais is the same especially from 1st-2nd, in the wet crazy to control gotta take it real slow, it'll kick out hard. Changes slightly when in the non-overdrive D, bit better to drive (but miss overdrive).

    lololololol

    1) of course it'll change hard with a stage 2 shift kit, that's the idea
    2) the non-overdrive D means the car doesn't use 4th gear...that is all...doesn't affect the way any of the other gears change

When I drive in Drive it changes gears harder, but in Overdrive its smoother and chages earlier. So your 2nd statement isnt always true, this is only with a stage 1 shift kit also.

adjust thekickdown cable and take it for a drive and plant it to check the changes then same but light on the foot.
Been driving a stage one with corvette se4rvo recently and it kicks something feirce on the way to 2nd then smooths out a bit. the changes are a little better with the foot down. have notice that if you plant it then lift a little the thing kicks up a gear and throws you around a bit.

have a go adjusting the kickdown cable. mine was so tight that the throttle body didn't open 100%... but i liked it holding gears for that long. i adjusted it now so the kickdown is as tight as possible at wot. i think that's where it's meant to be now.

but yeah it's normal: YouTube - VP Drive By

what do you think happens when you hear the wheels chirping

if that was in the wet i would have been inside a house.

it's just a hard shift. you'll also get used to it. i found it very weird and i hated it at first. a couple of weeks later, it felt weird to drive a car without it. just be very careful in the wet.

That's what shift kits / corvette servo's do. They make the shifts alot harder and more aggressive. Have it taken out if you don't like it......

I'm gunna hijack this a bit here, but is there an easy way to tell if a previous owner has installed a shift kit? My VS changes heaps harder and faster than my old one did

i would just like to clear something up , with these shift kits , for those that have had them intalled buy just pulling the valve body out , this is only a stage 1 kit even though u have brought a stage 2 and 3 kit ,you have only installed half the kit , this will firm up your shift from 1st to 2nd ,and u can even chose how hard u want it to shift , to install the rest of the shift kit your box needs to come out and pulled appart for the rest of it to be install once this is dun this will firm up the rest of the gears abit and stop the common problem that the t700's have witch is 3rd gear clutch plates buring out
