I've seen a few cars done with rollers now. And I've seen some pretty awesome results considering the cost involved.
enamel can give a good finish but it take great care.
Years ago i hada datsun that had one panel painted with a brush and it was very good.
When it was painted the panel ws cool and the paint warm.
i can paint your car with about 10 supercheap cans, the export quality ones, YES ITS POSSIBLE- .......but no it wont last long at all.

Paint comes from Whitworths marine supplies. It's called Brightside International Gloss...come in a whole bunch of nautical colours. Pretty cheap tho, and it's what the bloke used on the How To listed above somewhere. His VN looks incredible too.
Bit of a coincidence you put this up, coz me and savage1987 are planning on painting my car the same way over xmas....i'll let everyone know how it goes =P
The paint roler way did look very nice, but i dont want to imagine the amount of sanding you would have to do in order to get that glossy finish. Marine paint is a good idea too it would have some sort of corrosion inhibiotr in it as well?
I have seen on a US dodge sweptline forum a guy did his VW beetle and '69 charger this way (with rollers) but using a heavily thinned and tinted rust inhibitor product called Rustoleum. I have been considering doing it myself (a step up from supercheap paint) but dont really have anywhere enclosed to do it in.
The basic idea was to thin the paint enough so that it forms a thin, smooth film over the surface to be painted, that way it doesnt show any brush or roller marks.
andrew426,
im currently talking to wilso who rolled his car and im learning a fair bit for what im going to do for my car, im going to do it in a carport which has only 2 sides blocked off, so im not sure either wat il do to cover the other sides, im also checking out for a garage someone nearby to do it in if i could so...there are complications. The howto for it is at this link if ur interested DIY Painting your car with rollers
to coverthe other side go to a hardware shop and get some visqueen, its the plastic they use under cement and dirt cheap.
find a shop that sells taubmans industrial paint and check the range. some of them are real cheap.
I will be painting my VQ soon with this too. That VN in the how too is just incredible![]()
