Hey guys n gals, after some decisive answers to the following...there mainly fuel related
All Questions relate to a: 92 VP V6 With VN Brakes, VNSII Engine, VP Fuel Tank, VN Diff
1. I will be needing a new fuel pump in the near future and i want to plan ahead. I plan on going FI or stroker or something in the future so fuel management will be on the cards in that ill need more flow. If i buy say a walbrow 500HP super pump or something, will the extra flow just be managed by the fuel regulator and sent back by the fuel return line or is it going to cause issues? Are pumps on a supply demnd setup or what? I guess the base question is, can i buy a decent fuel pump in advance or will it cause me issues?
2. Is there aftermarket fuel rails available for the 3800? i Know billet did some for the ecotec but what are my options here? (Please dont ask me..why do i need it? or variations, PLEASE!)
3. I have in my garage a 68 or 80ltr long range tank from a live axel WAGON. Have i ****ed up in buying it? Will it fit my VP Live Axel SEDAN?
4. I have a set of VN Group A (Genuine) Brakes in my garage, what mods will they need to fit? I'm guessing they should physically bolt up fine but im curious as to what mods i might need? are the brake hoses the same? Is it a straight swap with the rotors?
i got told the brake's would bolt fine but that you'll need longer lines to the front. also a 1" master cylinder that i think you got too.
The pressure regulator should deal with it - so long as you're not flowing more than the pressure reg can flow1. I will be needing a new fuel pump in the near future and i want to plan ahead. When your 'IN' fuel pressure exceeds the rating of the spring, it pushes the diaphragm open and allows fuel to bleed back to the tank. - it just sits at a happy balance of whatever the spring is set at. - so as long as you don't go over what the reg can flow between the diaphragm and return line, it should control the pressure fine. - might want to give "Petroject" a call and find some flow info on the stock pressure reg.
The vacuum reference to the pressure reg sits on the 'dry' side of the diaphragm and simply either assists or prevents the diaphragm from opening depending on whether it's boost or vacuum.
In either case, that brings us to point 2 - if you go with an aftermarket fuel rail (for whatever reason) it will probably be easier to just run an aftermarket pressure reg seeing as the stock one is a O-ring direct fit into the stock rail. - aftermarket regs anywhere from $100 upwards. - or if you're budgeting and the stock reg doesn't flow enough - the VL ones are an 'off rail' mount and flow plenty enough for most applications that would be driven on the street.
Also, depending on what you're planning on using your car for - it may be worthwhile to go with a big external pump and a external surge tank - this way you retain your stock fuel pump in the main tank to simply keep fuel in the surge tank, and you feed the big external pump from the surge. - this way you'll never be out of fuel under heavy cornering, acceleration etc.
I haven't seen any around personally, but that doesn't mean there aren't2. Is there aftermarket fuel rails available for the 3800? i Know billet did some for the ecotec but what are my options here? (Please dont ask me..why do i need it? or variations, PLEASE!)- you could get fittings braized on to the standard 'blocks' that house the injectors and run braided lines or something to extend/modify the positions of them if need be?
the fuel tank is a no.
sedan tank sits entirly under the floor while the wagon one comes up and has space in it for a spare.
It's a good excuse to go buy a drop tank.
that's what i thought looking at it, the shape seemed wrong...its was this sort of L shaped thing... that totally sucks... any one want a wagon long range tank?
