Hi, I was going to change the inlet manifold gasket tomorrow and the Haynes manual says not to disconnet the fuel line at the fuel rail, is there a better place? sorry i am a novice at this stuff!

By all means remove the fuel line at fuel rail, all you need to do first is depressurise the fuel pipes. Easy! All you do is switch engine off, pop the bonnet, locate the fuse box on LHS (near battery) remove the lid off fuse box, locate the fuel pump relay, It is written on the railing there where all the relays are. It will say FUEL PUMP. Remove it by pulling it out taking note of which way it faces, then hop in car, start engine and it will cough and splatter, but just let it run till she's used up all the fuel in the lines. Thats it! Fuel system is now depressurised. Still take caution when removing hose, there may be residual fuel in it! It stings your eyes!!
I think that removing the fuel pump fuse to disable the fuel pump will be preferable. The oil pressure switch will still provide power to the fuel pump with the engine running. I think that it bypasses the relay but still uses the fuse.
Also, if you disconnect one of the fuel hoses at the manifold and the other at the fuel line you can loop each onto the other pipe and minimise leaks/potential contamination during handling.

just replaced my inlet manifold gaskets no too long ago.
make sure that the coolant from the manifold is all gone before removing the manifold otherwise you'll end up with a sump full of water like i didand have to do a oil change.
may as well clean the throttle body up with some ether or something while you have it pulled off.
remember to clean all the crap from the old gaskets which will be on the manifold and the heads before putting everything back together.
one other thing, you should probably get some heat resistant gasket silicone where the block joins the head in those corners to prevent leaks.
