well heres the story i rebuilt the lower end of the 3800 motor and put it all back together n just fired it up and it was tickin like crazy so i shut it off for a few min then tried it again and the oil light went off right away but then very soon came back on and same issue with the engine, just too noisy.
is there a quick fix to get the oil pump goin again? or do i have to change the damn thing?![]()
ive always read that they can be packed with vasoline to get pressure on start up
3800 don't need to be primed.
take the filter of and make sure it is pumping.
did you touch the oil pump in the front housing?
didnt touch it except to line it up for the crank and when i did that i spread my first 2 fingers to turn it to line it up
v6 oil pumps don't need to be primed so not sure what has happened.
did you check clearances before putting it back together?
what did you use on the bearings before you reassembled them?
did the oil holes line up with the new bearing shells?
it was just the rod bearings i replaced i put them in properly and smothered them in grease b4 i put the rod caps on and even the lifters are tickin badly i think im just gonna have to replace the timing cover would anyone have a cover with a good pump in it?
if your oil pump is not working caudsing low oil pressure than the fuel pump will be disabled and your motor wont run at all.
and yeah did you use proper white grease when installing the bearings in the bottom end? could it be a blocked pickup? what was it like when you took it out?
has it got oil in it.
as stated before take your filter off and give it a crank, see how much flow u are actually getting, are u using some osrt of run in oil?
haha did u put the right sized rod bearings back in?
Put a pressure gauge into where the oil pressure sender unit start it and check you got pressure you should have 40 psi at idle and up to 80 psi at high revs. Sounds like if its ticking your not getting up to the top end.
If you didnt disassemble the timing cover and oil pump gear drive then i doubt its an oil pump problem

if it had oil pressure before and u havn't played with it ,then its not the pump
Dead wrong.
the oil pressure sensor ALSO provides power to the pump.
This is what keeps the pump going a few seconds AFTER the engine has stopped and also allows the pump to operate IF the pump relay fails.
it IS NOT a low oil cut out, that would be just silly.
I would rather blow and engine then have a car parked over train tracks when the 9 oclock arrives.
to prove this point go and un hook you oil pressure sensor and start your car.
It will crank and start like normal.
now to the problem
maybe a little gasket goo in the oil gallery from when you had the covers off.
nah cleaned it n re checked it b4 i put it back together. im gonna try to put a funnel to the presure sensor hole and pour oil into the pump while i rotate the motor over backwards by hand. it does seem feesable that its just not priming by its self
my money is on the pick up. its a common problem. Best presure test the pump first if ya got plent of pressure take off ya rocker covers start the bitch and look for oil,if you see none then again my money is on the pick up
good luck
this is how i fixed the same problem
primeing vp v6 oil pump without pull down mod
i wont tolerate cretins aiming to cause problems here at jc and nor will i hesitate to let the moderators know
