I have a VP V8 Calais, and I have just finished doing the rocker cover gaskets only to find they weren't the 89-94 type paper ones but the 95- rubber type gaskets, does this mean my car has had an engine change? and I cannot see any evidence that the engine has been apart (apart from what i've done). I haven't check the engine number yet as im not sure what its meant to line up with.
Has anyone come across this before, does anyone else have an earlier car with possibly a later engine but no evidence of and engine change
Below is a PDF file i copied off permaseals catalog that explains the difference.
I used cork ones for my last rocker cover gasket replacement. Could have had a leaky gasket and the previous owner changed it, dosnt mean engine work has been done.
So your car had the rubber ones, did they fit snug? or were they a tight fit? Chances are that someone just used the rubber ones anyway and they went ok ont he older wider head lip. They look like the rubber ones would work on both really, not a big difference, easier to use the rubber ones because the cork ones suck and you have to glue them down because they dont stay in place.
I've got rubber gaskets on my '90 VQ V8 and they do a perfectly good job![]()
