Default Vn Questions And some other Q's

OK well first post on this forum.

Im An Ex-Mechanic soon to re-become mechanic and soon to be living back in Australia after spending 7 years over seas.

I hope to get into a Holden dealaship and get cheaper parts Only problem is i do need to do my apprentaship again because when i did mine it was with renault Uk and the qualification is only for reno cars #%$@ sake!

I used to live in the Uk and because of the insurance issues i could not insure anthing over a 1L at my age when i got my full licence yes ive never had and will never need P plates! suffer.

im not to bad at the old re builds in the Uk i rebuilt a 1972 mini cause i was in england and it would be stupid not to own a mini if i couldnt get anything over a 1L

Anyways When i get back i want to get my self a Vn to P%SS my dad off (FORD FAN) lol not really just always loved VN's but dad is another incentive

So ive looked all over the Forum and it seems there is not many people who rebuild wagons so me being wierd thought ill do a wagon up lol

    whats the best V6 engine?
v6 sounds safe for me fuel wise since i hear fuel price is no good back in aus these days

    Whats legal whats not?

Superchargers for V6's are they worth it?

Twin Exhaust?, do they exsist i cant find anything on the net.

Manual Boxes what ones will fit? I hate and ill say it twice hate Autos

and last but not least What do i need to look out for common Problems?

    thanks

    Aaron

How about, VN wagon with the later L67 super 6 (from VS-VYish). So long as you don't go too crazy a T5 manual will last behind it and it would be great on fuel. That's all legal no problem. What you want is to buy is a good manual VN wagon (spend 2grand on that) and another 2? on the the motor and loom etc. There's no real problem on the VN's apart from rust around the windows but that's mosty white cars that rust and only really in the wetter Southern areas

Thanks Greenfoam i was looking at that T5 box seems to be the only one.

i wont drive crazy but im sure things last longer with propper maintainance.

as for cash it will be a long time before the car gets on the road so cash wise it does not mater as long as i got a place to Sh4t eat sleep and F342 ill be happy.

ive being looking at some of the prices of the turbo kits and supercharger kits whoa 4600G bleh thats alot of beer not mentioning the beer id drink doing the car lol

so engine the 3.8L with the 3800 written in red on top of the engine??(that is the one we are on about no?). A T5 box to begin with and i spose as always things change but for ruff figures now and i want to complete the look that i want the twin exit exhaust

Body well i was thinking strip it send to sandblasters and then work from there midnight black drop it on some nice coilovers and 19"s, VZ Maloo body kit, all parts cleaned and sprayed including axels and so on new brake lines and other ****e. And a 9000K HID kit if legal(had one in my mini i hate old bulbs now) and window tints to legal again lol

    interior

as for me living in china i can buy and send the cheap nasty amps and DVD headunits over at a cheap price for my self so sound is sorted. if prices work out or i feel like doing it re-trim interior black carpet will be getting installed since i can buy a molded one on ebay for 150 make all dash lights blue maybe do climate control other then that spray what i can with the plastic dash paint stuff.

and hofully after all that starts to begin to be a reality there will be an epic thread and at the end a nice looking wagon and i can do another project lol

The last thing you want to do is sandblast a VN's body, the shells were dipped in zinc and all sorts of goodness to stop rust and you never want to sand one back to metal if you don't have too (don't get one with cracked original paint) The engine with the 3800 on it is the one you will be sending to back to China on the slow boat with all the rest of the scrap metal.

This is the engine you want

Now that engine is a tuff one to find! not a single one on ebray!

well not supercharged anyway do you mean this one but this is the NA one?

but then found this but its 2 grand and that can be gay if i want to re-build it to get it a little faster or better sounding.
VX Supercharged V6 Holden Commodore engine VS VT VY HSV - eBay V6 Engines, Engines, Components, Car Parts, Accessories, Cars, Bikes, Boats. (end time 24-Nov-08 21:11:04 AEDST)

me is thinking a V8 would be cheaper now just not on fuel. but then the L67 was not great on fuel was it?

just had a look the EFi engine is cheap was that any good? i think what will happen is that ill end up doing what i get spose beggers cant be choosers then in the future be nice to make a nice VN super six bah im not sure cant wait to get home and just get started then it will be better..

The EFI V8s aren't as bad on fuel as people make out to be.Everyone must think we still run carbied cars here.

That super6 is just as powerful as the EFI V8 avaliable in the VN, so i'd go that way. (better torque curve)

Another box you can look at is the T56 or ZF 6 Speed. Although both will cost you more than a Vn Wagon and Super6 motor together, but you wont break them.

Also, if you look hard enough, you could probably find a car with what you want already. A guy on Street Wagons recently sold his VS Wagon with a L67 for about 8k i think, with full leather interior. So theres bargains to be had. I found a manual V8 wagon, so i snapped it up!

The V8s aren't bad on fuel at all.

My Auto V6 used to average 11.5 liters per hundred around town
My Manual V8 (in a HEAVIER car, Statesman) averages 12.5 liters per hundred around town.

Cost me 3k for this car with the V8, and 1k for the stuff to do the manual conversion.

    Thread dig from 2008? Woah!

You shoulda started a new post.

But to answer your question, if your talking about the VN motor, it's 1-6-5-4-3-2.

It might be the same for some of the newer 6's too, but I'm not 100% on that
