Default vp calais fuel guage problem

    hi guys,
the fuel guage on my vp calais just died. the gauge doesn't move/respond and the distance to empty etc has stopped working as well. What should i check, fuses, sender etc? if it is the sender that needs replacing is it hard/expensive? the car was low on fuel, light and alarm came on. went to the servo and put $20 in and then nothing worked since.
    thanks

On the VN it's the light blue wire from the tank sender to the cluster that give you the DTE.

I'd get under the rear of the car (at the tank sender) and check the sender/wire contact for corrosion.

Gauge and DTE power from the same wire I think. So no DTE and dead gauge = contacts or cut wire.

    hi,
just checked the wires and the contacts and they look ok. any idea how much a sensor is? also do you just un bolt the old one (small bolts) from the tank and bolt the new one in?
    thanks

To discover my wire had been cut (due to rear end accident) I ran a wire from the sender to the plug under the dash. Lit up the DTE so I ran a by-pass wire to fix the problem.

As for removing the sender. Cant help with that.

has got the idea just look up what one you need to get properly and connect a lenth of wire to the connector on the sensor then to the DTE in the car and hope it works if not then as far as i know they are built in fuel sensor senders in holdens are they not? if so its a new sender sensor unit and most times they just unscrew at the top but tank might need to be removed not sure never worked on a holden but trouble shooting wise. connect the wire up and see what happens
