Leaking fuel tank

Long story short, car was stolen a few months back, and recovered with some damage which we fixed.. But am still discovering secret damage.. These people obviously went airborne and bottomed out the zorst, (replacement 2 1/2 sitting in backyard due to struggles of trying to wedge it in) but it seems the fuel tank .. *sigh* is leaking.. worse and worse..

It started with a strong smell of fuel are filling up, no evident fuel leaks. Over time progressed to leaking maybe a twenty cent piece which seemed to be from the hoses running to the top of the tank which were found to be a bit damaged and cut back and reconnected.. Now the tank is leaking hella more and it seems to be.. That the tank is slightly moved and pushed inwards about 2 inches. There are two braces that hold the tank in place, and the right one looks like it MAY be damaging the tank, as a large amount of fuel seems to be leaking from there now.

It's leaking about the size of a small dinner plate, should I be complaining..? Sucks when you borrow $ for fuel, knock off work and you see liquid dollars on the ground.. My mom is even worrying and telling me not to chuck my ciggie butts out the window :|

I know there is putty you can get from repco and super crap etc, although i would feel a whole lot better knowing that the tank is in working order and not just bodged up.. it would not be a worry or an unfinished job in my head that would oneday undo its self..

Fifteen bucks for putty.... Or how much do you guys reckon a second hand tank would cost for a VN berlina from the wreckers? I've been quoted a possible fourty dollars by a mate, elthough not having too many $$ i want this done as cheaply and pain free as possible. I thought if I do the tank, may as well do the pump seeing as the buzz is sounding louder and more distorted.. Also, is there any specific kind of hose you must use for the tank? ..would anyone recommend good replacement hose?

why use putty, chew up a minty and slam it into the hole goes very hard then it contacts the fuel

if it was me i wouldn't go mucking around with the fuel tank. get a new tank, cash is better than your car catching on fire. don't trust putty.

I would have obsessive compulsions to check that the putty hadn't fallen out on my way through Canely Vale of a morning =/
