    Default Code 43

    Hey guys..

A while back the engine light would come on now and then and she'd idle rough. Got the o2 Ssr code and replaced with VT one. Fixed it for 5 mins and still has rough idle when engine light appears.

Did the diagnostic test on my car, and it tells me that the Knock Sensor Circuit is experiencing problems.. My understanding is that the Knock Sensor stops the car from pinging/detonating..

What/where would I look for first in investigating this problem?
And also, what would the signs of a faulty Knock Sensor be?

Look for the wire to the knock sensor to be broken inside the insulation, or the connector itself to be broken or full of oil +/or water. Usually it's a connection/wire rather than the sensor itself.

The sensor works by generating a small voltage when a Piezo crystal is vibrated if the engine is knocking. The signal is then sent to the ECM. Anything interrupting the circuit between the ECM and the sensor can cause the fault code.

With two fault codes, it's probably worth looking for an earth fault as well.

If you do decide to replace the sensor, the tension the sensor is installed at will affect it's sensitivity. Tighter is more sensistive. I don't know what the recommended specific torque is off the top of my head.

    I feel so stupid.

Fixing this problem was as easy as wrestling the car for the sensor and butchering at it to get it out.. Ok, that bit wasn't THAT easy. Then cleaned it. And put it back in. I've been driving my car for almost a whole day without the engine light. It's a treat. I've been looking at it paranoidly to see if it's flashin, esp when I put my blinkers on haha

you gotta squeeze the sides of the plug and pull it out. youll notice its an oval shape. you need to squeeze it to bend it into a round shape, at least on my v8 it was anyway

you should try a factory turbo car... i have 2 of the damn things and once i had a open look... pulls ALL timing on boost, you hit boost and go slower than off boost!!!

its known as a "open circit"

Those sensors need to be put in at a specific torque like Cheap6 said otherwise they can stuff you right up and retard your spark at almost all loads

must be fun trying to get those sensors in then. only tool i could get on there was a spanner. no way could i fit a torque wrench on it. even then, the metal on it making the hex shape is really weak and likes to change shape easily

I stuck my hands into my burning engine bay as overheating problem has returned and takes forever to cool down..... And wrestled for it. A screw driver did the trick. Quick clean and shove of wires to their little homes and put it back in and forgot about it till i drove Mom to the servo last night then was doing a dance whilst driving hahahahaha "I got no engiiiiiinneee lighttttttttttt....."
