Default Leaky tank > take 2

I've been filling up with minimal amounts of fuel the last few weeks. Sh!ts me cause fuel is only about 1.03 p/L at the moment!!

I can't really afford a replacement tank until next week or the week after, so I was after some suggestions from you guys..

I've just jacked up the car and attached a pic of my fuel tank....

The yellow arrow I have drawn points to a hose, which is snapped on one side as you can see. What does this hose do??? :|

The two pink arrows show the leaks I found. One is at the top of the tank, where the fuel enters the tank. I suspect that MAY be from over filling it. There is a clamp around this which has been tightened, but still continues to show signs of leaking from here.

The second pink arrow is where the strap holds the tank in place. This area looked like it hasn't been cleaned in the whole 18 years of my cars life. From here you can see where fuel had been leaking, running along the strap the length of the tank. I cleaned out all the dirt behind the tank between this particular strap, and it leaked more!! :| I pulled out what seemed to be an old dodgy patch the last car owner had put there to patch it up. Can't find the leak but after removing this small patch, the leak is heavier. You wipe the tank with a towel, and more fuel slowly leaks out from where the strap is holding the tank.

I'm after a short fix suggestion for a week or so, preferrably no $$ included as I need every dollar I have for this new tank, haha.

I'd like to do this without having to remove the whole tow bar and all.. But looks like im gonna have to So, is there a material that I can temporarily use to patch this up? And this hose that's broken, anyone know the importance of this hose?

    Thanks in advance

What happens if it's faulty though?

How does this affect the fuel system.

ask them if they have a return policy, if they do go for it, and if your unsure of the fuel pump in the tank, use your own, and it wouldnt hurt to give the tank a good rinse out with fuel and check it for leaks before you throw it on your car, and yes, replace those breather hoses !.

The breather hoses wont hurt your actual fuel delivery to your injector's etc, but as Zuicider said, they will leak, but they normaly only leak when the tank is full and you will get a realy strong fuel smell in the cabin, my VP was the same. They are there so the tank can breath ( your tank is never full there's always some room left in the top ) Without the breather hoses or a " vent " you would have some big problems on hot days

they normaly feed into a charcole canister type deal to get rid of the fuel smell.

repco for the blue and white epoxy ribbon, just clen the dodge spot a little and stick it on. good stuff to use as it flexs if you don't go to thick.
another trick if you know exactly were the hole is, is to put a screw in the hole.
there are about 6 breather hoses missing from that pic.

metal fuel tanks have a plastic liner painted on the inside to stop them rusting, if this gets damaged then they rust from the inside out.

Took one strap off from side inside near the wheel.... Found dodgy patch that old owner had wedged in there... Hole was about the size of a pin prick but man it leaked. Bitta super glue and cleaned off the old patch - voila - NO LEAKS TODAY!!

    Man thats dodgy... Haha
