89 VN gearbox/engine/??? issues
Hi,
Just had a second hand installed - had 140,000 on it. Drove beautifully for maybe 1,200km, shifted well in every gear, under full acceleration it performed well.
Just today when I went to start the car it backfired and part of the air box blew off. I continued to try to start it, and it did (with accelerator pumping) and it sounded like it was misfiring/running on less than 6 cylinders. I let it sit, stuck the front back onto the airbox, and started it - ran fine.
No problems with the motor after that. After driving for maybe half an hour I noticed the shifts in the gears were changing... It'd shift into second way too early if it was under some acceleration, and now, when completely floored, before the gearbox shifts into second it hits the revlimiter a couple of times.
What the hell happened? There were no C/E codes, the light's off, the engine's running smoothly, but the gearbox seems odd.
No fluid.
Called the guy who did it, has a new transmission for me.

mayb check the transmission fluid...
