    Default Limp Home Mode

Here we go, bit of a different question to usual.

I wanted to know basically, is there any kind of way that I can hook up a switch to enable limp-home mode?

Would it be bad to manually enable limp-home mode?

Would there be any other way to drastically reduce power with the flick of a switch?

    Cheers

    *Sigh*

I knew that was gonna be said.

I know that, but sometimes I have to lend my car to a mate or cousin, and they love the power, but I don't want them giving it a boot-full.

    So any suggestions?

if i find out that people who i have lent my car out to have been thrashing it around they get ass whooping and never use my car again.

anyway maybe theres someone to adjust the rev limiter through the ecu so it can only rev to a certain point i heard this can be done

Yeah, but I don't think it can be adjusted by a switch.

I was thinking more along the lines of putting a short across an important sensor like maybe the CAS or something else, to trick the computer into thinking that there's a problem and then it will enable limp-home mode.

Limp home mode is dodgy as, far more likely to wreak your car running that than a bit of hooning around, just don't lend your car to anyone

That's what I was worried about.

So there's no other way to limit the power or something?

Like possibly cut-off the fuel pump at a certain rev or something.

    Anything at all?

I pretty sure it will be fairly power limited as it is , get some sticky tyres on it maybe

    So they love mine.

Hmm. I guess it isn't possible then >_<

You can go and read about how to switch two programs on a eprom, there's a few guy on here that do that. I don't bother myself

I may do that later on, but right now I haven't got the money to be able to do a VR ECU conversion.

yeah restricting air or fuel or anything can damage your engine, especially if someones thrashing it.
my mate had a computer device of some description which saves all the info on the last drive so you can see their speeds revs and so on, so you will KNOW exactly what they were doing.... if they were thrash it then you can whoop them.

restricting the air flow won't damage anything, it simply means that when the throttle is wide open, only 1/3rd the air will be allowed in, as if the throttle was only 1/3rd open, and therefore the ecu will only inject the amount of fuel required.

restricting the fuel is kinda stupid, because that would lead to leaning out, and detonation.

I might consider making up a throttle stop or something like that I could clip on, but wouldn't know where to start.

Wouldn't you need to use a VR ECU to run 2 different tunes on the same EPROM?

A rather large lump of hardwood bolted to the floor under the go pedal would work. Or maybe an adjustable bolt type arraingment on the throttle body to limit the butteryfly opening....less air = less fuel = less go power = less headaches. Of course youd need to padlock the bonnet so they couldnt modify the modification lol.

Or stick a piece of cardboard with a small hole cut out in the air filter box, so it restricts flow like hell.

But would that be bad for the motor if they floored it and it only got a small amount of air?
