yeh i have the needed tools diff center ect i just wanted to find out if there was any tips to make it easier and as for Joey_19 ive done my research and its for a drag car not a road car so maybe you should put your brain into gear before you start typing
or maybe you should learn to keep quiet if you have nothing productive to say
any how thanks for the heads up guys except Joey_19

dumb**** ever driven a spool?
Awesome news for me too, I might put mine in on the weekend. Been looking at me for ages. Need any other new bits? Diff shop quoted $780 to install it hahahahahahhahaaHAHHAHAHAAa sh!t...... they said I'd need new seals through the whole diff as they'd leak forever, new bearings, gear needs pressed on to spool, etc.. were they trying to rob me or should I get any of those things? (I don't know diffs)
Haha so what if it was a street car? They're perfectly driveable unless you're an idiot / n00b, so I've heard anywayfrom people who've had them for YEARS in their daily driven Commodores, like Stealthy.

We recently changed the diff gears in my car, and while I paid trade for everything we put new bearings and shims in the whole diff which I think cost me about $40-45.
As for leaking seals.........you just put the orange goo on the rear case.
Selling FG G6E Turbo and buying a N/A Supra
Haha...*Sigh*...lol
Im all for the spool, there awesome to burn around in, and give that extra bit more at the take off at lights...aswell as smoking the joint out.
Basically, when ur putting in the spool, be aware that its a headf**k of a job and if u dont kno what ur doing its even worse, get some1 whos done it b4 to help ya, and ul prob need some backup shims (o rings that go on either side of the diff centre that usually break when reinstalling the diff/smacking it back in). You'll also need a hammer and a certain size pin punch to knock out the differential pins, a socket set, 1.5L of diff oil, some rags, jack/ jack stands (duh), crowbar / solid levering bar to get the diff out, rubber mallet to knock the diff back in later on and some sweat, tears and some swear words.

thanks heaps guys for the pointers and yes i have driven a spool before just never installed one but i have a friend coming to help that has done it before
and thanks for the backup STEALTHY i believe if Joey_19 drove a spool he would probably dive is car straight up a tree i meen lets be honest guys i race drag cars this is just a side project im sure any normal person wouldn't have said half the crap that Joey_19 did probably because thay read or are educated enough to be able to read full stop and if that fails im sure if you look in my profile you will see that the car is far from standard i suppose some people are just plain stupid
any how thanks for the tips everyone including Social

wheel bearing seals may leak. it happened to me when i changed ratio and fitted LSD center. you won't know until you have it all back together and been driving for a week or two. worste case it costs you a new seal kit and couple hrs work

lol I'll put mine in shortly.. see if it destroys my 500,000+++km gearset
WTB: mulberry VN interior parts
just don't thrash it from a standstill bring the revs up slow then the gearset should be fine

yeah they have a crapload of backlash though .. ah well i'll just wait and seeat the end of the day, rear axles are cheap as hell anyway haha
WTB: mulberry VN interior parts
there prob stuffed already thenbetter reason to get some 3.9's out of a skyline and have even more fun
........
and from what i hear, if you buy new axles you should be fine and highly doubt they would break.. our axles are 20 years old so its just playing the waiting game atm![]()
No haha I don't want a ratio change. Too much highway driving, and the VN is running too well on fuel for me to ruin it even the tiniest bit..
Don't care about axles will cross that bridge when/if I get to it.
Will take my chance with original 3.08 gearset, see how it all goes.. Gone are the days I blow bulk money on this car just for fun.. If they get destroyed I MIGHT consider some 3.45s.. maybe.
WTB: mulberry VN interior parts
might aswell3.45's would be a nice little addition aswell

sam adjust the gears in the diff while you are thereso it doesn't clunk anymore
WTB: mulberry VN interior parts
fairly easy on a IRS diff as the adjustment is threaded. however on the older style semi-trailing arm with solid diff axle the backlash is set using shims. unless you have the gear to adjust (surface grind) em to the correct thickness adjusting things can be difficult
