You bet mate, I've gone to extreme lengths to remove less than that.

Remove it ten times, and you've almost got the difference between a V6 and a V8 in terms of weight.

From memory greenfoam, mine was maybe two? kilos... they're fairly hollow, but it's so hard to judge weight over such a large distance But I'm putting my money on 2kg or just under.

Then you need to remove your door strips, rear garnish, speakers... (speakers are heavy)

5 kilos wont show up on the street because removed from the back off the car it will only show up as more wheelspin, however it would be enough to show up on the drag strip. But Like Morton said it all adds up. You could say all the 5 kilos I've removed from my car all did nothing, but once you add them all together it's half the reason it makes good times. If I can remove 100 pounds from the car it'll be a 13 second car and a spoiler is just one step closer to the goal. Lets face it if I wanted a spoiler again later on for actual aero advatnage I could do alot better than a factory one

They're usually 4 bolts, but it's the black silicone used to seal them onto the boot that can often be the killer. Here's hoping yours doesn't have any greenfoam

Also, speakers. Now. And don't forget to empty your windscreen washer bottle and coolant overflow tank.

There is a surprising amount of weight in the stereo and speakers. I replaced the stereo with a sheet of .9 aluminum - really handy to mount gauges in too

hahahaha, that's a story you'll tell at the pub when you're eighty ^_^

What about the front swaybar? Like you REALLY need that. You and I have both driven with a broken front link-pin, it's not that bad

It's not too bad driving with split/blown out rubbers on the the link pin cause that happens everytime you go around a corner fast, but the top nut falling off at 100+ around a sharp bend and having to drive over someones bush driveway to avoid rolling the car is bad :P

And that's exactly what it wold be like without a swaybar, no thanks, I want to keep that experience to a once only thing

I'm in the garage heat-gunning the sound deadening out of my boot right now, so let that be motivation to you I found the old factory 60w Statesman amp under the rear parcel shelf, silly little thing That has gone straight into my box of old car bits that I have no use for but won't throw away.

And then perhaps later this week when the weather's a bit nicer, the front and rear reo bars come out for some modification

How much time do you have before you stage up at the drags? Do you have somewhere to leave your belongings? I'm just wondering if it's a sensible idea to develop a mufferless catless exhaust with some bolt-up flanges in the middle, which you can carry in two pieces in the boot, and bolt-on when you arrive at the strip.

I've also noticed that the Statesman has extra subframe panels in the boot, on the sides, where the VP doesn't. VP subframe bits end around the wheel arch, leaving a big gap down both sides where you can hide things. In the VQ that subframe sheet extends all the way around to the end of the boot, and up to the top, with only tiny little holes at each end. How curious.

It's a shame that all lightweight racing seats look wanky. It would be nice to have a modest looking pair of front seats, without silly side bolsters, which were both comfortable and lightweight. I'd pay for that.

Hmmm... Enough brainstorming, back to the heat gun

I wouldn't be surprised if greenfoam has already done that, and my VQ is on the way there too

Did you know that when Ferrari built the F40, the paint was so thin you could see the carbon fibre stitching underneath it? That's because even paint is heavy

There is about 6kg of paint on a car isn't there?

get rid of it, might save a few kilo's but it will also reduce aerodynamic drag. factory spoilers are generally just that, spoilers and don't really do anything to aid downforce as the normal family wagon never goes fast enough for it to do anything other then be there for looks

How much weight do you reckon there is in the sound-deadening in the boot?

If it's worth while, I might do it.

There is no sound deadner in the boot of a VN, only some of the calais's. All VP's onwards have it

    Hmm.

So what could be removed on a VN to reduce a little weight.

Nothing too dramatic, and I'm not removing the A/C system.

On my house scales my Vp rear wing is 3 and a half kilos. But my misses also weighs 58 kilos... Maybe a happy set of scales rigged by her?

    hahaha ^_^

3 kilos sounds about right Greenfoam, you know what to do

And yes, everything done to save weight is drastic. Which is why I don't run aircon, and am in the market for a manual steering rack. The sound deadning in the boot (if you have any) is roughly 4kg. It's the stuff in the front footwells and around the trans tunnel that really packs a punch
