did some searching but couldnt find what i was after.
whats the best breakpads to use on a vn?
standard breaks, i dont race around i just drive normaly.
Probably just some Bendix Advance or something. Really depends on budget. The standard VN brakes are shocking though so get good pads, or upgrade to VP S2 or V8 brake setup.
Depending on how much you want to spend, I tend to find that a $60 set of Ferodo pads are a good compromise between long life and good braking.

mine don't(besides, you don't judge a pad on how much it squeals when you forget to apply anti-squeal compound)
but anyway, bendix are hopeless. they come in blue boxes. :P

Hey GHO5T, if you spell BRAKE right you will find more when you search.
I agree with Bendix. I personally use Bendix Ultra Premium, off the shelf at supercheap.
If you are in Brisbane go and see GSL and get some QFM's, they are supposed to be good too.
ferodo have the highest heat rating but i cant stand squealing.
and no im in sa
Got Bendix pads on special the other day for $48 for a front set from Sprints(SA).
Should have got QFM'a on here from gslrallysport, probably the best, foolowed by Lucas D-TEC TRW.
Anyone tried the Bursons brand pads?
Are they any good?
Their made by Bendix but with a different compound. Wondering if their worth the money.
QFM HPX pads are very good, but they are a bit dearer. Low dust, long life and very good stopping. $85 a set posted.
And asbestos shouldn't be carcinogenic either, but it is, so pads squeel, so yes you need compound. sad but true
Just do everyone a favour, and please try not to give people "advice" when you're not entirely sure what you're on about.
I've heard some really good things about QFM, I've been considering having a pair of their pads posted down for my next set. Probably worth a shot![]()

i whacked a set of QFM pads on the front on me vs today (just standard QFM thats cost me $35 from local auto place) and must say work heaps better the the bendex ones i had. The car now stops quicker and smoother......10X better then bendex:P but i also have slotted roters all round
Most things are better than Bendix, I've found. They're well advertised, but that's about it. Kinda like Shell - lots of advertising, but their entry-level products aren't brilliant.

I'm in shock!!!I couldn't of said it better!
For those are are only after an entry level pad (ie. Bendix Advance, ferodo rubbish etc.) QFM do do an entry level pad (ie. below HPX) which is $35. Good for 450 degrees (so better than most cheap pads that are in the 380-420 range), and what we sell stacks of to car dealerships as a hassle free customer street pad.
But with the HPX you can get the half price rears deal, which makes front and rear $131 delivered, and much better value.

Sick of paying too much for high performance brake pads? Want high performance and cold bite with low rotor wear?

Have a squiz at QFM Performance and have a quick read of the customer feedback and reports on the HPX pads, alot of which came from Commodore owners!![]()

All pads should be backed with ant squeal, 2 things alot of installers and people forget, greasing the slider pins, and putting grease(rubber/ceramic/silicon) on the back of the pads where the piston contacts. I have never seen this advice anywhere, but apparently is an important step. Also caliper bolts need to be replaced as they are torque to yield, i am sure mine are still the original.
And stop bagging out Shell ! heheeven at entry level, they make good products. Remember, Shell, Mobil or Caltex/Texaco are base oil suppliers, anything you use, oil/lubricant would have come from either one of them. Shell just dont advertise as much, remember their name goes hand in hand with Ferrari......its a bigger picture than just our small country(population wise).
There you go, their advertising has worked ^_^
Everyone does rubbish products. Entry level Castrol and Mobil oils are rubbish too. Same goes for Valvoline. I was just making a point
But (and now i'm wandering off the topic, feel free to ignore me) it's a well known fact that Shell premium petrols don't always meet the same levels of quality as BP and Caltex petrol (Mobil share BP petrol, but include their own additives). There have been several independant tests carried out, all with similar results.
[/off topic rant]

[QUOTE=VNexecutive;972779]yeah, but asbestos has been completely banned from use in australia since the start of 04.
Yeah I know its banned ( cos it kills people ) but it was really good for brake pads. Since it was taken out brake squeel has become a much bigger problem, so adding some anti-squeel to the back of your asbestos free pads is now a very very good idea.
i have a 400hp wrx and i use lucas trw pads they are the best pads ive ever used for the street , they have heaps of bite and they dont chew the rotors the only bad thing about them is there a bit dusty , i paid $70 for them , retail there like $100, for a vn they should be alot cheaper , lucas say they bake them at 650deg
Oil companies entry level items are usually some of their best...Mobil 1 is their most advertised, Castrol Egde/Magnatec, Valvoline Synpower/Durablend/Maxlife etc. You barely even here about the other stuff. Their cheap entry level products are usually flogged off as Bursons,Repco store brand oil etc and generally pretty good if they still carry a SL/SM rating. Market is small in Australia they haven't got time to make good oil and cheap oil. Selling off old stock and old API SG,SJ etc standard oil different story.
Ferarri = Shell, they use their lubricants in their F1 cars.Shell also own Pennzoil......Yes there were issues with their fuels not long ago, but this goes hand in hand with the way things are done here in Australia. Has anyone tried or tested the Shell 100 ?
They all control different areas of Australia, Shell and BP i believe work closest, one more Petrol refining other more Gas. Exxon Mobil on their own, but best fuel and LPG to be had from Mobil and smaller ones they supply to Liberty etc.....Chevron-Caltex also do their own refining with good quality products. Shell are pulling stuff from the Timor sea which is not the best quality, but their Base oil lubricants and Additives are probably the best in the world.
Now whos gone off the track![]()
