my power steering fluid is leaking out of the pipe from the reservoir, seems the pipe is not sealing, i dont know if it has to hold pressure normally but it leaks quite allot, i cant be bothered replacing the whole pipe cos i cant see where it goes and looks hard :P
can i get away with just cutting an inch off the length and re connecting it with e new clamp? will it need the slack it has currently?

No reason no to do that unless it'll be tight as tight. i don't know where that pipe goes either but keep in mind a bit of torque movement if it goes to somewhere other than the engine (which it should...).
It looks as though the clamp could be moved up a bit and tightened anyway. are you sure it is just splits in the end of the hose?
Also, if it is cracking there is a chance it'll keep doing it.
I did one of these on the VL (v8) and it was a small space to work but not too much trouble. Might be worth having a closer look and replacing the whole lot. If it is a fairly long one it's low pressure. If the HP one is anything like the VL it'll have clipped ends and be much shorter.
i dont think its splitting unless i cant see it, but if u wiggle the hose you can see fluid at the top so yeah i think its just loosened.
it just seems to leak too much fluid to just be a little leak from the top from a loose pipe clamp, theirs powersteering fluid all over the chassy rail and drips onto my driveway. dont know how long its happened for but it has gone through a small bottle of fluid since i noticed it (about 2 weeks)
i will try a new clamp on its own see if it works, and if i can find ....be bothered enough to look and find out where the pipe goes i might just replace it. would i have trouble with air in the power steering if i replaced the hose?
shouldn't have problems with air. I think there is a breather in the reservoir? so the as long as you keep the fluid in check the first few days the air should disperse out the breather. someone might correct me but the fluid will stay in the rack.
hydraulic systems are normally self bleeding and the reservoir isn't sealed so air can get in and out as it heats and cools( and leaks). take the hose off and check the plastic piece and make sure it hasn't been cracked because the hose clip has been overtightened. i think it is actually suppose to have a steel sleeve inside for this reason. cutting a short piece off should be fine. the other end of that hose connects to the return side of the power steering rack.
also make sure it isn't leaking from the bottom of the reservoir where it fits into the pump. it's only sealed with a 'O' ring. maybe have someone turn the steering wheel whilst you see where it's leaking from

im fairly sure all the fluid is comming out from the top, you can see it all over everything under that spot but i will give it a check,
might get someone to turn the wheel while i look to see how much it actualy pushes out
