How do i know when ive done them up tight enough?

if aftermarket, ive read that they just get tightened up enough for two rubbers to start pushing against each other. thats what i did with mine and no problems so far

Don't forget, you should ideally tighten them with load on the suspension
But yes, as tight as is "sensible". Not so tight that you go red in the face, but a decent effort.

By load dose that mean having the car on the ground, how the hell do i reach them then?
Anyway just done them up so i couldnt squeez the rubbers with my hand and then some![]()

Yeah, car on the ground. Otherwise they're tightened up out of shape. You get under there by driving the front of the car up onto ramps, or lowing the front wheels onto some blocks of wood.
Or, suck the belly in and squeeze under there like I do![]()

That's what does it for me too, you can't bet the guy next to you if he's got the same car and weighs 50 kilos less, even the flawed Human version of phsyics doesn't allow it, as for ramps. Last time I had to get my VP on ramps it took lots of wheelspin, some sideways action down the hill, planks of wood, cardboard, mowing the grass and finally after an hour a big run up and some braking skills before I got it on
nah mate just do them up till a little after the bushes startto clamp. I spat a set of nolothanes out the side buy do them up tight, well firm by my standards.
I think the instructions that came with mine say go till there is no play left in them, then a third of a turn more. Or to 20 newton metres.
Mine come loose so often that I am able to crouch down beside the car, reach around behind the front wheel and tighten them without needing to crawl under the car. Also - its a good idea to put an extra nut on (like the nuts off the ones you just removed) and tighten it against the nut on the link pin to lock it shut. Nylock nuts do sod all - mine always work loose.
