    Default Harmonic balancer swap... Question!

Hey lads my vn's harmonic balancer is showing cracks on the outer front. So im thinking of swapping it over for my vp's.... Is it possible to swap them or is there changes from the years? And or cos vn's manual vp's auto.
Note: Not impressed, after finding out what i thought was a water pump failure turned out to be a freakn leaking welsh plug...

If the vn is a series 2 then it sohuld be a straight swap, the main diff between the series 1 and 2 in the spaces on the back for the crank angel sensor are different.

The welsh is the drivers side rear (facing the right guard). But ill do all the ones i can get to without having to take the motor out...
Id love to take the engine out and do the welsh plugs and run a new set of gaskets through it, but i havent got the equipment to do it.
I think its a S1 vn and a S2 vp. Will it still work to change both the balancer and c.a.s?

I found that the timing cover is different and with the CAS the base of the sensor is flat where the VP CAS on the hole that the bolt goes through the base is lifted a mm or so so when you mount your CAS on there it will snap it, thats in my case when i tried it on a vp timing cover with a vn CAS, with yours if your using your VP H/B and CAS just compare the 2 and look at the base, i think they did it in the VP for more accurate timing for the sensor, just a heads up if its the same problem.

Oh damn although i can get a harmonic balancer to suit pretty cheap, was the bonus of a new cas that lead me to want to use the vp's harmonic.. Atm the vn's harmonic balancer just has a few crack lines appearing in the rubber. But may as well replace it while engines are out.

Hey mate i did mine on my seires 1 vn today after it left me stranded on the side of the road yesterday. A few things firstly i dont think you'll have much luck with that puller as theres nowhere to bolts through. I used a 3 claw puller and either grab it around the outside or if the claws are thin enough in the slots on the inner hemisphere. VN s1 use a different style cas and you have to adjust them once you put the balancer back on make sure its not fouling and sits correctly then tighten the bolt that holds it in place up.
There's no difference in where any of the holden v6 cas mount on the timing cover i dont see any reason why you couldnt use the later models my only issue now thinking about it is make sure the belt lines up correctly.
Also another thing 1 1/8 socket was needed compared to the 27 i used on my vp what a bitch i had to walk to a mechanic twice to borrow the correct socket

Damn stupid puller.. guess i could still rig something up with it but... Thanks for the socket sizes also had a quick look today and not one laying around to fit either lol. I might just swap the puller for a 3 piece puller like you used.

i'm pretty sure there is a difference because i broke 2 CAS before i found the problem out, compare the difference with the VN CAS to the VP CAS, unless the wreckers gave me a VR timing cover i dont know it said VP on it, just have a look at the 2 and see.

When i searched my wrecker for them he said he thought they would be on the te but we didnt find any laying around, we found 3x green injectors from a ford that would have been great if we couldve found 3 more lol. Wheres stocky when you need him. Although i think i asked him bout the magna injectors earlier in the sc14 post.

My mate was just going to score them for nothing and give em to me, thats why i wanted some part numbers so i can tell him what 1s and then tell foamy that i got some and get a tune set to them.

Seems most places sell them as a standard one size vn-vs harmonic balancer. So it looks like its just finding the cas to suit. I have one on the vn now and one on the donor vp so ill just have to try em out and see when there off (tomorow). The vp one is relatively new and would be great if it fits.
