    Default vn still overheating

hey got a dec89 VN commodore and i have changed the waterpump and thermostat and it still seems to overheat, the radiator looks fairly new in the car, so what else could it be? i noticed that i can see and hear water sizzling by the L/H rocker cover gasket (passengerside) so what could that possable mean? would it be cheaper to get another motor put in as i can get one for $1000 fitted?
    cheers

Water at the rocker cover gasket? I don't think that's normal.

Are you constantly having to fill the water up in radiator at all?

Well then there's a good chance that your head-gasket isn't blown.

What about your welsh plugs? Are any of those leaking?

Inlet mainfold gasket is most likely culprit if you hear it leaking near rocker covers.

I'm not 100% sure, so anyone who know's otherwise, please correct me if I'm wrong, but there maybe a possibility that you manifold gaskets gone, and leaking water.

also does the rockercovers have to come off? is it reasonable easy job to do? what has to come off do you know? and is the manifold gasket where the 3800 sit on top of ?
also would it cause it to overheat? as when it starts getting hot i can hear it bubble back into the overflow bottle, but when it cools down i still have to put a fair bit of water in it

no raocker covers dont need removing but changing manifold gaskets is a big job. Basically the whole manifold between the heads needs to come off. The gaskets that need replacing are between each head and the manifold. gasket set is about $30 and you'll need to drain cooling system, depressurize the fuel rail and disconnect the hoses at end of the rail all other obstructions removed. Theres about 8-10 bolts the need to come out and then whole manifold will lift off replace gaskety and rubber seal at front and back of block the install is reverse of removal

no worries, so do i just ask for a manifold gasket set or a water manifold gasket set?
also how do i depressureize the fuel rail? take the vaccuum hose off?
and would that still cause it to bubble watter backinto the overflow from radiator when hot?

ok ask for an inlet manifold set to suit vn s1 there might be 2 kits one will just be gaskets the other will have things like the thermostat housing gasket. get the bare kit. depressurising fuel rail is done by removing fuel pump fuse and cranking engine for a bit.
Yes it can overflow to bubble as pressure is forced back through cooling system

you amy get away without taking tb and elbow off though it could give you more room. Yes change both side the other one likely on the way out. The blue things are the seal for front and back of block when you pull it off you'll see where they go
