Hey ya fellow commo lovers and haters..
After being told a pod will make no difference for so long, I have finally rebelled and bought a TFI one. (it was shiny... lol) Now i'm up to the tricky bit, finding my new toy a home..
It would fit in perfectly if it was just a tinyyyyy bit smaller. I was just wondering what way you guys have made it fit, I have two air boxes to practise on...
Any ideas?? Please??
I'm at my lil cousins bday, I need something to occupy me... lol
Thanks guys
check my ride for some pics of my POD setup. link in sig

immortality ive seen that setup b4 its nice.. u shoulda hooked that pipe to a cai more air? rather then extending the pipe to the bottom of the car![]()
extending the pipe to the bottom from the side of the shield made a difference as it does "suck" cold air. however i will have another one coming in from under the gaurd to the front bar so it has "forced" airflow when driving down the road. just gotta cut a hole to fit it. i think thats what your thinking off

no as in hooking that pipe to a cai mounted on top of the radiator fan?
ive got a good home for it

i could do that but i think it's a waste of time, i have the super6 CAI on the missus VS and it does stuff all. the gap between the bonnet and grill is fairly small and i think stuff all air gets through there. i'd much rather duct from the bottom and from the front bar

bahahahahaha stocky nice one but it cost me 25 bux!!
im going to get every cent worth
i dont see whats so bad about a pod anyway?? it makes a difference in some cars
Hahahhaha stocky well doneI think I see some win there.
Best thing for a pod is some sort of cylindrical housing for it on the way to a CAI. It'll give you no gain over a good panel filter. In fact, depending on the brand you bought, it won't flow as wellI have the flow specs for a few brands of filters lying around. I'll get back to you about TFI when I find it.

Okay, from what I see here, the only good brand of cheap pod filter, was 3A Racing (they have a red pod with a yellow top). It came first on the flow bench, and had remarkably good filtration. TFI had fairly poor flow, and average filtration.
All the other brands that were cheap, AND had good flow, had TERRIBLE filtration. Keep in mind, the primary job of the air filter is to stop crap getting into the motor, and cheap pod filters generally don't do that job as well. If you want a pod, K&N pods are fantastic - they came first in filtration, which is excellent, and still flow around 580cfm, which is WAY more than your car will EVER need. (a K&N Panel filter will flow more than you'll ever need, and filter really well, but that's another story for another thread).
Surprisingly, A'PEXi had poor flow and filtration, but if you were going to buy a Pod - if you HAD TO buy one, I'd say get a 3A Racing pod, for only $29. Flows over 600cfm, and has great filtration.
Just out of interest, how much did you pay for your POD?

So many of them don't filter nearly as well as a K&N Panel Filter. If you invest in a K&N Pod Filter, then sure, you've done well for filtration, but it's still going to suck in hot air. (induction temperature is all about power). But if you buy a cheap imitation brand pod, you have to do your research first, because a lot of them flow well, but don't filter as well as they'd have you believe. And some have both terrible flow AND filtration.

Exactly Daniel old son ^^^^
Hence why in my old car (VP V6) i took a holesaw, cut a 90mm hole through the bottom of the airbox and through the steel, plumbed up some 90mm PVC pipe down to the front bar, and fixed a K&N pod filter onto the end very securely so it didn't come off. Made sure it all sealed properley with waterproof plumbers silicone and what not.
And i made sure i could easily undo the pipe so i could clean the filter once a week as it did get very dirty. But by gum it worked well!

It's easy, there is JUST enough space between one side of the airbox, and where the wheel arch starts to slope upwards to cut a 90mm hole with a holesaw. Use a diamond edged holesaw though for ease of slicing through steel. It's not hard, just don't rush, go slowly and carefully.
I even took the holesaw, placed it where i wanted the hole through the bottom of the airbox, took a black texta and drew around it. Then just drill through the airbox and straight through the steel. Just don't let it push through too far once you have cut through the steel, or you will hack into your tyre. Even better, just take the passenger side tyre off.
