Default Minispooling VN, quite stuck, what next?

    Here's what I've got

What now? I can't see how to secure the minispool into the diff centre.. I need 4 pins, don't know which ones to use or were they supposed to come with the spool?

That diff is a LSD and you need to have a single wheeler to put a spool in man, as the diff housing is different the single wheeler diff have the pins in it that hold the spool

You've got to be kidding. This diff has never spun LS in its life, it's on a V6 Lexcen ffs! Absolutely no indication of it being an LSD, ever.

Cheers man I'll put the prick back together.

couldn't give 2 ****s about any of that, if it comes to it I'll get a whole other rear axle and swap it out that way at a later date. For now I need the car running tonight, in about 3hrs. No time to panic about that stuff. LSDs are **** anyway if I put a new motor in I'd ruin a rebuilt LSD in no time.

didn't know most lexcens had them, this one has given no indications whatsoever that it was LSD. Sucks to be me about now

The spider gears are mounted on a pin setup VT-565, but the pins cannot be removed so cannot be used to secure the minispool.

There should be a roll pin in there somewhere, once this is out, you should be able to punch the pins out with a pin punch.

i could swear i posted a reply i nthis thread hrs ago but it's not shown, anyways, the pins are different on the LSD setup, if you check his pic, (i think it's the 2nd or 3rd one) you can see the 4 spider gears mounted on the pins on a circular piece. this is because the LSD has the spring through the center to push the LSD cones. you need the pins from a standard open center to mount the minispool. i suggest you see if you can fit the minispool inside the LSD center and if it fits and bolts up fine all you need will be the pins from the open center to make it work (assuming they both have the same diameter pins). it would be great to actually get an answer on this question as the normal answer is it can't be done but i suspect it can with the correct pins from a standard open center.

bolting it all back in as it came out won't effect backlash etc if the shims are fitted back as they came out

Sam you can get those cones machined down a little so they don't bottom out and your lsd will work again. I guess 500,000ks hasn't been kind to the lsd: P. I suspect my VN Lexcen has a worn out one in it too since I bought it off a guy that has a huge boat and that's what the VN got used for, pulling the boat up the slip ramp. I just can't see it happening without an lsd even if it appears to be a single spinner now days

yeah, looks re-buildable. some new springs and shim the preload correctly and it shouldn't be to bad. the cones like quiet good actually for the mileage

nah i bought a minispooled diff off a mate, and the housing that the spool was fitted to was 100% genuine LSD housing.. never took it apart to see what the pins were like etc though - I'd imagine you need single spinner pins.

Never thought to look there actually, I'll look tonight if I remember and see if I can find anything. Bonnet opening is a 2 man job unfortunately..
