    Question HELP!!!!!!vn 5L wont start

    hey guys,
i was just driving and car cut out. i checked for spark straight away. nothing at the cylinders, but had spark at the coil. got it home left it for the night.

started today on it. went to bursons. was going to get a new dizzy. but they sell more ignition/ trigger modules, so i got one. fitted it. no go. checked spark. no spark at coil anymore! WTF!!!!!!!!!
so went and got a coil!. still no go!
    f*** it!
so got the racv blokes to come look at it. no spark like i already know and no injector pulse.
guys like its a cas sensor lmaoo. its a v8 not a 6 i said. his like it has to be inside the dizzy. so anyway.rang up everywhere and no one lists a cas.
but from reading the forum it could be the hall effect sensor...

    any other ideas guys?
    thanks in advance

yeh what you are talking about is the hall effect sensor and i havent had to change one (yet) but from what ive seen it is a **** of a job, you have to pull the dizzy out of the car to get to it.

Sounds like the hall effect sensor to me too. Probably worth throwing out the old dizzy and getting a whole new one. Possible the plug is just fouled? Could need some unplug - blow on it - replug action.

buying a whole new dizzy would be the easiest option. the HAS arent hard to change once the dizzy is out, but if your gunna pull it out you may aswell spend the $160 dollars or so (from memory) and buy a whole new dizzy with a new HAS in it already.

i fixed my HAS in my last 5L only cos the funds werent there at the time (after spending what was left of my pay on an ignition module and a new coil).

the only problem i had with my HAS was that the clip to hold the plug in had broken so it kept coming loose. fixed it pretty easily though.

did u guys time your engines in when changing the dizzy's wont start if its not close, and as to be in diagnostic mode to do it properly. though u can still check the spark side of things while your cranking.

yeh engine has to be goin to do timing but you can still do it whilst its cranking or at least check it, mine was way out and wouldnt start had to get a friend to crank it whilst i checked it - wheni got it close it started enough for me to fine tune it as for spark dunno - might have to check the usuals for no spark - coil, ignition module etc...

could quite possibly be ure ecu, mine stuffed up a while ago and the car just wouldn't start but just b4 it totally went the car would barely run and was coughing and splutterong like a bucket of ****.

got home in the afternoon and the car was fine then the next morning could barely start it, you can swap it with another ecu and see how you go, all vn/vp ecu's are the same as im using one from a vn v6 to run my v8 now, just make sure you use your own memcal tho as that would be fine its just the ecu that stuff's up

sweet as man thanks... do you have to unsolder the shipboard holding the v8 memcal?
well the car is at the mechanics now. see if they can find anything.. causes there no power at the coil or dizzy plug. still turns over and fuses are fine and relays ive swaped them about 10 times with working ones..

yeh car will still turn over with a stuffed ecu but wont start, and no the memcal is just held in by clips, its hard to miss cos its a blue rectangle box thing on the board
