    Default Petrol Fumes

    gday guys.....
My car has a rough idol and lags every now and then on takeoff....i have no idea what it is and ive spent hours trying to find out why....also...when i start the car and its idling...you get petrol fumes inside from the fan....

im almost certain that the problems are linked....possibly from a fuel line leak or something?? but i cant really find anything...

ive replaced....leads, sparkies, fuel pump, etc...the norm...

does anyone have the same problem?
can anyone let me know how to check the fuel line maybe?

It's possible that it's a fuel leak from around the engine bay behind the fuel rail. Could be the fuel pressure reg, an injector, a fuel line...

when I bought this stato in Sydney, and did my pre-cruise checks before driving it back to Brisbane, I found the fuel lines in the engine bay were leaking quite badly. They were just not done up properly haha

But you'd best be tracking down the source of that leak before something bad happens I've known cars with fuel leaks to catch fire... and they don't go out by themselves.

If that fails, behind the RH wheel on the petrol filler pipe to the tank, there are rubber hoses that connect to a semi circular black plastic thingo, look there, had same problem.

Also there are rubber fuel lines in the petrol tank that can persish and break away from the lil bowl your fuel pump sits in.

My S1 Vn would surge and carry on, usally when I had 1/4 tank or less got a tank with good lines, fixed the surge straight away.

^^^^^^Agreed, check all of the breather hoses on the tank as they usually perish over time!

Also check the breather hoses connected to the Charcol canister as i have hear that if there not connected properly or not at all then you get petrol fumes in the engine bay that work there way into the interior!

Also agree with morton on a possible fuel line leak!

Charcoal canister is actually quite likely I replaced all the hoses and joins on mine today, using spare bits of hose that I collect. Secured all the ends with cable ties. Much neater now

see: refreshed vacuum lines with cable ties:

If you need to bend any of the hose permanently for neatness' sakes, simply hit the side of it with a heat gun for a little bit
