Default Dodgy Speedo (amongst other issues...)

    Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone has experienced the following issue with their VN...

My car was broken into a few months back and a mechanic friend installed an immobiliser for me.

Since then my speedo has been stuffed. The minute I go over 80km it flicks back and forth from 0km and back up to the speed you're travelling.

It is driving me senseless and is extremely irritating! I don't know how true the indication is of what speed I am doing anymore.

Also, having hassles with the wiper's snapping constantly... have been through about 5 sets in the past 6mths.

    Any help would be appreciated

    Cheers

Hahahaahahahaha get used to your wipers continually snapping, OR your wipers only wiping half of your screen LOL its a commodore thing...

As to reading your speedo, you should never have trusted the one in the VN in the first place hahaa.. I have no idea how the immobiliser is doing that to your speedo, but sounds like a wiring problem... If all else fails, new speedo!

Did your speedo have these problems immediately after the immobilister was installed, or shortly after?

I know on my old VN wagon I removed a fuse and it started doing that. At the same time the torque converter wouldn't lock. After re-inserting the fuse all was good.
Make sure there aren't any fuses broken or any wires accidentally cut as this may be the cause.

As for the wipers, is it the actual arm or the bit that holds the wiper blade on?

yeh one of the fuses indirectly affects the speedo - mite be worth looking at that first - your mate mite have tripped it putting the immobiliser in , cant remember which fuse but its one under the steering wheel...

My wiper broke in a big rain storm we had, luckly it was the passanger side so i just drove around 1 wiper race style for a few weeks

If its a S1 i think there the ones that had the wipers that didnt lift up (well they where on mine), i upgraded mine so they lift up now so i can clean under them

with windscreen wipers.. i dont think its a commodore fault man.. its a windscreen wiper.

the speedo thing must be the speed sensor! check in your fuse box under the steering wheel see if the fuse if its blown.. if not the sensor thats on ur transmission is starting to die
