    Default Auto v6 brakes.

Help me make my car not sound like a space shuttle is launching when I brake. Also, when braking from a long distance my steering shakes ALOT and my rear end goes out. Note this is under normal driving conditions, like how you drive with Mom in the car. And other conditions, peak hour on the way to and from work etc. Any suggestions as to what may be causing it?

It was the same with the pads that were in the car when I got it too.. My current pads cost me not alot at all so I didn't expect much. I'm sick of cleaning brake dust off my mags all the time. Are bendix a good go? Or my Mom is swearing by bosche..

And finally, can anyone suggest a decent brake upgrade?? Something that I can go to the wreckers and get bits and pieces.. I know with big brakes that there'd be only a few mm's between the brakes and my rims..

    Thanks guys!

    Sab

The shudder is more than likely warped rotors. You will need to get them machined off.

does sound like you have warped rotors, also bendix brakes are the best near same as massive calipers, bendix all the way

I guess the shake is only long distance/speed braking..

Replaced a rotor way back when I got here as it was warped.

Upgrading to better brakes anyway and will see how it goes.

Was told I can do a VT conversion easily, but can get vp v8 brakes for free

Yeah sounds like warped rotors, had it when i first got my car, either take them off your self and take them to a brake place and get them machined if there still within the legal requirements. Taking them off yourself is cheaper then them doing it, plus its easy

    OR

You could just get Series 2 V6 VP brakes which are 290mm over the 270mm that the vn's are, you probably wont notice any difference.

As for brake pads, im using bendix but there still pretty brake dusty, and they weren't the cheapest ones to buy either

    EDIT: VN 270mm -> 290mm Brakes
Was an issue discussed in last couple of days have a read there

All I can say is don't go too harcore on your brakes because you'll only end up disapointed. VN brakes are bad on the best of occasions. Just get them to an acceptable standard and don't go spending heaps. I bought all new rotors and new bendix pads for my old VN and it made little difference, was very dispointed. As for the VP S2 brake upgrade, I woudn't waste my time for such a little gain, again watse of money. The brakes of a VN are just one of the flaws that you need to live with. You can do the VT calliper upgrade but again, be prepaired to cough up a few grandos, fair enough if you plan to keep the car for years and years to come, but most ditch their cars after a few years.

I would suggest either get your rotors machined (if they are within machining tollerence) and get some new pads.

i think the only time the V8 upgrade is worthwile is if fitting new slotted rotors and high quality pads. i suggest QFM from GSL Rally Sport (site sponsors) forget bendix. i don't like machining, especially if they are going to be near minimum spec, brakes are designed to turn rotational energy into heat (by way of friction), so thin rotors can't absorb a lot of heat and are therefor in-effective

Yeah +1 again for the QFM's, just fitted mine and the braking power has increased noticeably and no squeeling.

Ima just go into Commwreck then and find me a decent set from a VR then. Interested in the VT upgrade. Newer is better, im not going to go all out upgrading it, everything iny my car is second hand... lol. I wont bother machining them.... that will be more expenisve and time consuming than just going down the road, getting a set, cleaning them and chucking them in. im on a trainee wage and the vn has to deal with it.

If you have good pads and the VPS2/V8 rotors and a 1inch master the brakes can be quite good, it's mostly in the pads though

Another way to get your brakes to work is to go to the gym and get HUGE legs.

lol yeh when i had my vn i replaced the front rotors and whacked on some new bendex ultimate pads...made the car stop way better (only cause it had crap pads on it) but still the braking was crap.

funny thing is now i have a VS with ABS and the braking is waayyyyyyyy better. But i had to move me parents vn the other day and i was doing about 1 kph (very slow) and taped the brake and well yeh "there was none" lol ...im to used to the brakes on me vs:P

People would be in alot of trouble if they sold me warped rotors!!

Plus, I'm quite respected where I get my car parts, I don't believe i've ever been ripped off there. If not they're done stuff very very cheaply. Many try to rip me off and think I know nothing coz i'm female, so now I stick to the one place.

Well, if you truly think that, you can ship me a set of your high performance brake pads and rotors free of cost Sounds fair?

Along with the shockies too, wouldn't mind a new set :P
