Default New Head Unit + Speakers

I need some advice about installation of a new head unit and 2 new speakers. The two stock speakers in my '91 VN commodore have had it and I wish to purchase some new car audio gear so I can listen to my favourite music while driving.

    Here's what i'm after - http://www.jbhifi.com.au/images/2009...90101-Hero.png

Shoud I get someone to install it or should I do it myself (or get a mate to assist). Also can I just simply swap the stock speakers (the ones in the dash) with the new ones or do I have to make holes in my two front doors?

    Advice would be greatly appreciated.

the speakers in the front dash grills are 4 inch speakers -they are cut in a realllyt odd way so finding something the same is i think not gunna happen - i bought normal 4 inch speakers and then bent the tabs that the screws go in enough for it to fit which is enough to put the grill cover back on.

those speakers in the picture look like 6 inch which will fit in the real parcel shelf without too much drama

stereo is a basic hookup just get a copy in the stereo section of ya wire colours or use a volt meter to get the major ones and guess the rest pretty easy..

Hey Blake, Troy here, (went to school with you)

Maybe you should look into getting the VR/ VS door pods which have the spot for speakers.

Oh from what you heard ay! What about when haydz drills the holes in the wrong spot and the door trim dosent go back on!

But really buy some splits for the front if you getting the pods (1" speaker and 6"for the doors incase you dont know whats splits are) and for cheap sound put the stock speakers you got from the wreckers out of your pods and put them in the rear. Trust me i know it works

    hehe, thats my car!

one thing you should do when you put the VS door pods on it dont bother with the standard speaker mount. just make some up with some MDF rings (speaker spacers). a lot easier than trying to mount that huge as plastic thing. thats the mistake i made.

    just my 2c

I got my VS pods with the metal grill as well. I paid $40, that was nearly 3 years ago.
