Default Electricial Problems in VP Wagon

    Hi,
I have just bought a second hand VP, accepting that it has a few problems.

The main one as i see it, is that a few key electrical systems dont work.

The Airconditioner Fan, Engine Cooling Fan and The Aircon pump does not seem to turn on when you press the button, and the Cigarette lighter does not work either.

I have checked/replaced the fuses and relays, but i was wondering if their was a common problem that could cause all of these things and perhaps others that i havent discovered yet.

All the lights work, and the car does not overheat while you are moving, but if you get stuck at a stoplight, you need to switch the motor off else the temp slowly creeps up.

Could all of this be related.. is there a master fuse somewhere that i need to check ?

    thanks,
    Michael

    1) Aircon: Is it possible that the switch is broken? Try exposing the wires behind the switch and shorting them. There is also a red wire which is supposed to run to the aircon compressor to activate the clutch and start the pump. Check the condition of that wire.

    2) As for overheating - is the thermo fan (on the engine side of the radiator) coming on? IF so, at what point? Keeping in mind that safe operating temperatures extend up to 3/4 on the heat-o-meter.

It's possible that if the fan IS working, and the car is still overheating, the problem lies in your cooling system. Possible stuck thermostat, or air in the cooling system. Depending on the age and condition of the cooling system, there could be blocked water galleries in the motor.

There isn't any master fuse that would be responsible for all of these duties. They sound fairly unrelated... then again, it could just be that both fans aren't working Check function of the fans, also try shorting each fan to the battery and see if that works.
