I'm not sure on what the problem is, but sometimes when I've got the air conditioning on, the compressor will randomly engage and disengage by itself.
I don't know why, and I was wondering if anyone knew what it was.
This is normal behaviour, provided it's switching once every few minutes. The compressor will dis-engage and re-engage to try and reduce ice forming on the evaporator(the part inside the cabin that makes everything cold). Once the temperature of the gas has moved back into a preset range, a sensor re-engages the compressor until the cycle repeats. Or such is my understanding.![]()
yeh my vs does it and my old vn done the same, however my old vn did it to often. When i got my vs regased they said that there supposed to do it but not all the time (i.e...every minute) if its cutting out due to frezing up (very cold air) he said the TX valve could be faulty.....dunno how true this is though
Also check the green wire connection in the multi 6 lug plug near the fuses....mine has a high resistance and made the air con intermittently fail.
This is my vr that I rebuilt ....CLICK HERE to see my vr on Cardomain
......if you want to check it out......Anyway make sure you rubbish a ford daily ....I am a 4DH8RZ Club lifetime member .................new members joining everyday
mine is turning on and off every five or so seconds. after a little while it can run alright. but then yesterday it kept going on and off constantly and so i'm not using it til i work out what is wrong.
Many years ago on hot days the A/C on the 88 wagon would cut out all the time and I was told this was the compressor over heating. It mainly did it when towing the van on over 40 Deg days @ 100kph. Slowed down to around the 80kph mark and the A/C would work for much longer.
Dont know how true that was - It came from a Holden Tech man........
OMG aircon this and aircon that. Harden upI was on the road for two hours today in the 44 degree sunshine. Windows down, arm out the window - soak it up. It only happens two weeks in the year
All winter you'll be bitching about your heater taps!

vn's don't have a tx valve they are a oriface tube system.
high and low pressure switchs control the compressor not a thermostat.
This is a old type ac system.
the switch on the condenser plays up a lot on them so just put a piece of wire accross it and see if that fixes it.
does it have a r134a sticker on it and a red and blue cap on the charge points?
this indicates it have been changed to new gas.
if it has not been done then you would need a cannister (reciever dryer) oriface bube (blue i think) a couple orings and r134a adaptors to change it over.
the systems hold around 5-700grams of gas when fully charged.
The rubber hose leak slowly about 100grams a year per meter (from memory)
So the hose may be up for replacement to, you can take them to a ac shop and have the new hose put on old fittings. (this works i done it)
