gf just got a vp 5lt calais, was drivin it home and oil light came on, started making the worst noise she said, so i drove out, turns out there wasnt much oil in it, so i put some in it, started it, noise went away all good..
after drivin 5 mins down the road, making horrible noise again, oil lights on again but there is still oil in it... so just parked it up and i brang her home hah
no idea whats wrong with it lol, sounds like a truck... any ideas?
Does there still appear to be a lot of oil in there, when the motor is running and you check the dipstick?
Could be an oil pickup problem. If it's making a whole lotta bad noises, the bearings could be shot. They're pretty fragile bearings on the old 304s, hard to get oil into them. And if they run dry, they panic and die![]()

+1 for morton^^, you might have to take the sump off and have a look at the pickup and the bearings.
Oil pickup or she has a clogage somewhere, fix it or she will die.
I'll just put a note in here. Lots of 5 litres get sold because the dreaded oil light has started to arrive. Never buy one with oil sludge visible in the rocker cover or it will be all over the pickup too. That's just my note for future reference for anyone else buying one. And when you do get one, CHANGE the oil more than once each 100,000ks
