    Default ??? Idle tensioner

    Hey guys how common is it for the idle tensiner to stuff up on a vp i noticed a nocking noise from the engine got a long screw driver and put it every place put it on the bolt in the middle of the tensiner and the reved it a bit and bingo knocking definatly comming from there??????? is it the belt or the tensioner or something worse

    It's entirely possible that the spring is not so good anymore. Grab one from a wrecker (cheap) and throw it on, see if it fixes anything. If not, you can move on

    it happens.
    It would be worth looking at the balancer before spending your cash.
    When my balancer went i thought it was the tensioner to.

    It's true. Knocking from anywhere on any of the pulleys would travel through the belt and sound like any other pulley

    take the belts off and test each pulley see if any bearings feel stuffed

    ^^^^do this^^^^.

    was at a mechanics one day and he had a vn v6 there with a knock when you gave it a quick rev.
    you could see the belt flex when he did this too.
    turned out to be the harmonic balancer

    yeah thanx guys took the belt off and no noise from the tensioner just the lifter noise lol replaced it all good now
