i just did a manuel conversion applying a series 1 gearbox to a series 2 engine. There are absoloutly no differences and i will post pictures up soon to prove it. The only difference is the fly wheel in terms of an auto and manuel. An auto flywheel is diffirent to a manuel. Regardless a series 1 flywheel and series 2 flywheel fit on both engines, series 1 and two. No crank shaft needs to be changed, the bow housing is idenctical. The only and only difference is the input shaft, it is shorter on a series 1 which makes your cluth just a little bit more sensative but that can be fixed very easily with a simple spring.
What i'm tyring to say is that for everybody who wants to do a manuel convertion on there vn - vr dont hesitate caus a series 1 box fits.

What you probably had was a S1 or S2 motor or box that looked like the other one. You have been misinformed
Also, autos don't have flywheels - they have flex plates or drive plates.
So yeah, I wouldn't go telling all your friends that it'll work - I guarantee you it won't work on anybody else's car. Ever.![]()

and its a bell housing not a bow housing...
The only true part in that whole first post is a s1 gearbox will fit a series 2 motor
