Hello people, well for the last couple of days (not sure exactly when it started)
My car makes a squeeling noise, doesn't do it while I reverse (at all), doesn't matter if I'm braking or not, seems to be coming from the back wheel(s) of the car (can't exactly pin point location, had to go through "drastic" measures to work out it's the back of the car.
When it is squeeling, if I reverse a certain distance the squeeling stops, but about 100m after going forward i head some sort of clunk/bang and the squeeling starts again.
but "dissapears" after I hit around 45km/h
Thank you if anyone can help me, good news or bad, I'd rather know the problem than have to spend unnecessary money on "everything" it could be...
Just sounds like somthing rubbing. Dosnt sound that bad unless its a bearing. Have a look at your tailshaft maybe. Otherwise get a mate to idle your car up and down the street(whatch for cars) and walk beside it and have a look around.
i was thinking it was somthing rubbing, but ive cheacked all wheels and tailshaft looks fine (nothing near it that shouldn't be)
But it is a loud high pitch squeel, it doesn't go in one long squeel, it does have a rotation to it
I have been told by alien that it could be my trans, which I will be getting a service within the next few days, just wanna find a decent price for one.
how many hand brakies have you done? try driving off with the handbrake ratcheted up a few notches (not enough to hold the car stationary) and see if it still makes the noise

i havn't done any, but the wires don't seem to be in perfect condition...ill go do what you said and see if it makes any difference
EDIT: On that thought about hand brake, (although it hasn't been altered in 6 months, the other day when i went to drive off it did feel a bit weird)
weird...I reversed out my driveway, reversed to the end of the court (2 house lengths) then drove around for a bit and it didn't squeak at all :S
There goes the idea of the transmission then, unless of course the transmission was warm when you tried that.
4 hours? Depending on the drive it may have still been warm. I know i can come back to my car 6 or 7 hours later and it's still warm (at least 60-70 degrees [the temperature guage actually moves off cold]). But it's been designed to keep that sort of heat because it's good for the engine.
See how it goes tomorrow!?
